From upcoming financial year onwards, all schemes' funds must flow via single nodal agency: FM Sitharaman
Nirmala Sitharaman Saturday directed the Department of Expenditure to ensure that funding for all schemes and projects are routed through a single nodal agency from the next fiscal year and asked it to work with the Controller General of Accounts (CGA) for a smooth transition. Sitharaman suggested that the CGA examine whether it would be possible to make the government's annual accounts more user-friendly. She also asked the central government's accounting adviser to engage with counterparts in states to promote the adoption of the single nodal agency (SNA) system. Most of the large schemes are already routed through this system, which the minister said has helped save more than Rs 11,000 crore since 2021-22.

Kohli is an incredible player, his legacy will inspire a lot of people: Phillips
Virat Kohli is set to play his 300th ODI on Sunday, and New Zealand all-rounder Glenn Phillips said the Indian batting icon's «legacy» will shine through the years while «inspiring» generations of young cricketers. Kohli will become the seventh Indian player to achieve the feat after Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni, Rahul Dravid, Mohammed Azharuddin, Sourav Ganguly and Yuvraj Singh. «Obviously, he's an incredible player. And to know him a little bit personally myself is awesome,» said Phillips, who once played alongside Kohli at IPL side Royal Challengers Bengaluru. «He's an incredibly hard worker, and what he's done for the sport, but also for Indian cricket and also people coming through the game as youngsters now is absolutely fantastic,» he said on Saturday, ahead of New Zealand's Champions Trophy clash against India.

Champions Trophy: New Zealand batters call up local left-arm spinners to prepare for Kuldeep contest
New Zealand on Saturday called up two local left-arm wrist spinners to bowl to senior batter Tom Latham and all-rounder Michael Bracwell at the nets to prepare for a possible contest against India's Kuldeep Yadav in their Champions Trophy match here. Kuldeep, the left-arm wrist spinner, mainly operates in the middle overs where Latham and Bracwell often bat. «It's (the DICS pitch) playing a little bit slow and there's obviously a good deal of turn. I think it's going to be an interesting match-up,» said New Zealand all-rounder Glenn Phillips in the pre-match press conference here. «They (India) have got three quality spinners, and it's all about rotating the strike and taking the game deep.»

FM Sitharaman asks civil accounts officers to make Govt's annual accounts more user-friendly
Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday asked civil accounts services officials to work towards making the government's annual accounts more approachable and user-friendly. Addressing the 49th Civil Accounts Day event here, Sitharaman lauded the Indian Civil Accounts Service (ICAS) officers, led by the Controller General of Accounts (CGA) for the «silent technological revolution» in which states are finding a lot more ease of operation and ease of getting their government business done by adopting the public financial management system (PFMS). «I would also like you to examine, in consultation with the CAG, whether it would be possible to make the annual accounts more approachable and user-friendly and allow citizens to analyse easily and generate customisable and simpler reports,» Sitharaman said. She said that since a lot of digital integration has already taken place with the states, more research can be carried out based on the data set available with the CGA. «If you're able to make the report a lot more user-friendly, that itself can generate a lot of interest in the work that you do,» the Minister said.

Jio platforms to launch cloud-based AI personal computer, says Aakash Ambani
Jio Platforms, the telecom and digital arm of Reliance Industries, is building an AI personal computer in the cloud which is compatible with any consumer screen and will allow users to build compute-intensive AI applications, Aakash Ambani, chairman, Reliance Jio Infocomm said. He added that companies which do not embrace AI and reimagine their functions will have a “bleak” future. Further, he believes that AI will transform the future of jobs but won’t replace them. “We have a consumer application which we will be shortly launching. It’s a cloud PC, which is a complete PC in the cloud, which is accessible in each of your houses but really be device agnostic. No hardware. You can build high compute AI applications on top of that. And what you can leverage is the reach that Jio has,” Ambani said at the Mumbai Tech Week on Friday.
