Ramadan 2025: No crescent moon in sight on Friday, Islamic scholars say first Roza to be observed on this day
Imam of Delhi's historic Jama Masjid announced that Muslims will observe their first roza (fast) on Sunday, March 2, following the moon sighting expected on Saturday evening.
As per Islamic tradition, the official start of Ramadan is determined by the sighting of the crescent moon. Since the moon was not visible on Friday, Ramadan will begin Saturday evening with the moon's appearance, which will mark the first day of fasting on Sunday.
In Lucknow, Maulana Khalid Rasheed Firangi Mahali also confirmed that the crescent moon was not sighted on February 28, adding that «the first 'roza' will be observed on 2 March 2025.»
