Bank of England to embark on largest reform since gaining independence following Bernanke review
In a speech given by BoE's deputy governor for monetary policy Clare Lombardelli today (25 November), the Bank will undertake a reform targeting the «whole nose to tail process of monetary policy making and communication». Back in April, Bernanke published an 86-page report outlining a set of deficiencies in the Bank's forecasting infrastructure, which are the tools staff use to produce its quarterly forecast and support analyses, with the review also including 12 recommendations. The changes come in response to «a sequence of supply shocks» which have impacted the UK economy in recen...

Thyssenkrupp Steel Europe (TKSE) plans to reduce its workforce by 11,000 people or roughly 40%, the company said on Monday, the latest major restructuring to be announced by a German industrial giant. Germany's largest steelmaker, a division of Thyssenkrupp AG, is under pressure from cheaper Asian competitors, high power prices and a weakening global economy, leading to operating losses in four of the past five years. Thyssenkrupp will cut 5,000 jobs by 2030 and an additional 6,000 jobs through the sale of business activities or transfer to external service providers, it said.

India will always have some premium; in October, when FIIs sold $11 bn, HDFC AMC saw record SIP flows: Navneet Munot
Navneet Munot, MD & CEO, HDFC AMC, says in the journey of Sensex from 1,000 to 75,000, we have seen many corrections and a bit of volatility is healthy for the market. Foreigners have lightened their positions and maybe as the results season kick in, maybe after a quarter or so, and people get more faith on the earnings for, let us say, FY26, FY27, FY28, coming back on track. Munot is pretty sure that investors would come back and India will always have some premium. One cannot compare other countries with a lower capital efficiency. India’s capital efficiency has been better, growth prospects have been better and the governance standards are better, and one has to pay some premium for that. What is the total AMC size right now, the AUM? Navneet Munot: It is over Rs 7.5 lakh crore. We have come a long way…

Europe is already facing its next energy crisis
energy crisis for Europe, which is still reeling from extreme shocks two years ago. Escalating tensions in Ukraine have contributed to about a 45% surge gas prices this year. While levels are still far below 2022 records, they are high enough to risk deepening a cost-of-living crisis for households and intensifying competitive pressure on strapped manufacturers. Gas storage is a lifeline during the coldest periods but inventories this year are rapidly declining after frosty temperatures increased demand for heating and a wind drought required more usage for power generation.

Adani's Colombo Port Project under scrutiny amid Sri Lanka's shift in stance
Adani Group's construction of a major deepwater container terminal in Colombo with US financial support could be in focus after the recent indictment of the group but is being favoured by the advisers of the ruling dispensation in Sri Lanka to boost investor confidence. Leaders of Sri Lanka's ruling party had prior to the recent election spoken about «cancelling the project» but post polls, the government said it needs more time to evaluate the project. On his part, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake has shown interest in continuing with all projects reached between New Delhi and Colombo by his predecessors as he banks on India's support to boost the economy.

IPL 2025 Auction: Mohammed Shami will partner Pat Cummins at Sunrisers Hyderabad
Mohammed Shami was sold to Sunrisers Hyderabad for Rs 10 crore in the IPL 2025 mega auction on Sunday at Jeddah. Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings were in the initial fight for the pacer. CSK pulled out at Rs 8 crore and Lucknow Super Giants entered the bid Rs 8.50 crore. However, when the bidding stopped at Rs 9.75 crore, SRH made their bid and the player was sold for Rs 10 crore. Shami represented Gujarat Titans in 2023, where he was the purple cap holder. The right-arm pacer missed the 2024 IPL season as he was recovering from an ankle injury sustained during the ICC ODI World Cup 2023. Despite his recent setbacks, Shami remains a formidable force, having bagged 127 wickets in 110 IPL matches at an economy of 8.43 runs per over..
