Jammu and Kashmir unit chief Vikar Rasool Wani from the party for «attempting to destabilise» and «inciting» indiscipline in the party, sources said Saturday. Sources in Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (JKPCC) said district-level leaders were not happy with Wani, and accused him of using party leader Ghulam Nabi Monga — who they described as a «failed Congressmen» — to destabilise the party. «He incites others to question the decisions of the party high command vis-a-vis alliance with National Conference and other decisions concerning J-K Congress,» a source in the party quoted leaders as having said. «We will be seeking his immediate removal as Special Invitee Congress Working Committee (CWC) given the fact that he doesn't deserve this position,» the source said.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Saturday said her first journey as a public representative of Wayanad is not her first as a public fighter as she asserted that fighting for democracy, justice and values enshrined in the Constitution is central to her life. Maharashtra Assembly elections, the state Congress in-charge Ramesh Chennithala dismmissed speculations about a rift in Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) stating that all is well in the opposition alliance, which will announce the list of all its candidates by Saturday evening. Chennithala who attended the Congress' Central Election Committee (CEC) meeting in Delhi on Friday, Chennithala said that party leader Balasaheb Thorat will meet with Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray and NCP-SP Chief Sharad Pawar today to sort out all the issues. «All is well in MVA. We are going to fight the election together. There is no problem in MVA. The problem is in Mahayuti.We are all together. We are working out a formula. By tomorrow evening (Saturday), all the seats will be declared,» Chennithala told late last night.

Police said that one Bipul Saikia, who was seriously injured during the clash between the BJP and Congress workers at a Bormar Bhogamur area of Samaguri constituency, died at his residence at Bajiagaon on Friday.

Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) on Friday released its fifth list for the assembly polls, announcing former BJP legislator Lois Marandi as its nominee from the Jama seat. The list contained only the name of Marandi who had defeated Chief Minister Hemant Soren in 2014 from Dumka. She defected from the BJP after not getting ticket and joined the JMM on October 21 along with two other former legislators — Kunal Sarangi and Lakshman Tudu. Lois Marandi, a former minister, said it was «painful» to part ways with BJP after serving it for 24 years. «The BJP in 2014 scripted a historic win in Dumka, which was considered a JMM bastion. But it honoured the women who are brought to the party from outside and not those who dedicated their entire life for them,» she had said.
