Mizoram and Assam governments will be held in Aizawl on August 9 to find a lasting solution to the vexed inter-state border dispute between two states. A senior official of the Mizoram Home Department said that Home Minister K. Sapdanga would lead the state’s delegation while the Assam delegation would be headed by the state’s Border Protection and Development Minister Atul Bora. Due to the Assembly election in Mizoram in November last year and Lok Sabha elections in April-June, the pending meeting between the two states could not be held for a long time, the official said.

Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on Friday said the state government would provide free electricity to about 30,000 government schools as part of measures to improve infrastructure facilities. Observing that electricity supply is a sine qua non for imparting quality education in schools, including using computers, he said power supply was stopped by the energy department when electricity bills of schools were not paid, he said. «When (free power) is given to farmers and 200 units free (power) is provided to the poor, why cannot free electricity be provided in schools where Telangana's future is built. I gave directives to our government officials to provide free power to the 30,000 schools in Telangana. The state government will take that burden,» he said.

He further clarified that his firms have secured only 302 visas out of 425,000 in the past five years. An NRI entrepreneur, Reddy founded Cloud Big Data Technologies LLC in 2013. Bloomberg's report indicates that Reddy's firm, along with other entities he controls, submitted over 3,000 entries, acquiring a substantial number of H-1B visas since 2020. The H-1B visa lottery, a key aspect of US employment policy for foreign workers, allocates a limited number of visas to skilled individuals. In 2023, 446,000 applicants vied for just 85,000 available visas.
