Mahesh Khichi of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) was elected as the new mayor of the national capital on Thursday, edging out BJP’s Kishan Lal by a razor-thin margin of just three votes. Khichi, a Dalit candidate, received 133 votes, while Lal secured 130 votes. Two votes were declared invalid during the process. The win marks a major boost for the ruling AAP ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections, scheduled for early next year. Khichi’s victory strengthens the party's position in the city’s political landscape, further consolidating AAP’s control over municipal affairs.

Howard Lutnick has emerged as a serious contender alongside investor Scott Bessent for the top Treasury job in the new Trump administration, two sources familiar with the matter said, as the race for the high profile role heats up. Lutnick, a longtime friend of Trump's and co-chair of the transition team, had received the backing of at least one influential member of President-elect Donald Trump's inner circle for the Treasury Secretary role, one of the sources said.
