Will bring stringent law to prevent transfer of tribal land to infiltrators in Jharkhand: Amit Shah
Amit Shah on Sunday launched a scathing attack on the JMM-led government in Jharkhand, accusing it of «patronising Bangladeshi infiltrators for vote bank politics» and asserted that if the BJP was voted to power in the state, it will enact stringent legislation to prevent transfer of tribal land to illegal immigrants. Shah also announced that Naxalism would be eradicated from the country by March 2026 and that the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) would be implemented in Jharkhand without impacting the tribal population. Addressing a BJP rally at Dhalbhumgarh in Ghatshila, Shah claimed that the tribal population in Jharkhand was declining due to the Hemant Soren government treating «Bangladeshi infiltrators as its vote bank.» «Bangladeshi infiltration is causing a sharp decline in tribal population in Jharkhand, especially in Santhal Parganas and Kolhan regions… the JMM-Congress-RJD alliance is encouraging it for petty political gains,» he alleged.

Naxalites attack 2 cops, flee with their weapons in Chhattisgarh's Sukma
Chhattisgarh Police constables were injured when Naxalites, dressed as civilians, attacked them with sharp weapons at a weekly market in the insurgency-hit Sukma district on Sunday morning, an official said. NGT flags solid, sewage waste management issues in Gujarat, Odisha
National Green Tribunal while monitoring the status of waste management across the country's states and Union Territories flagged several issues last month after analysing the progress reports submitted by Gujarat and Odisha. A bench of NGT Chairperson Justice Prakash Shrivastava noted that the two states filed separate progress reports detailing the steps taken to ensure compliance with the Supreme Court's directions regarding solid waste management rules and establishing adequate sewage treatment plants (STPs). Last year, the tribunal imposed environmental compensation (EC) on various states for the gaps in waste management, including Rs 2,100 crore on Gujarat, which had to be kept in a ring-fenced account. It stopped short of imposing the fine on Odisha after the state government gave an undertaking that it would set aside Rs 1,138 crore to address the gaps. Regarding solid waste management in Gujarat, the bench also comprising judicial member Justice Sudhir Kumar Agarwal and expert member A Senthil Vel said, «The gap reported in waste processing is almost at the same level as was reported earlier, which is on account of not having waste processing facilities commensurate with waste generation.»

Karnataka govt has now become U-turn expert: BJP's Shehzad Poonawalla on retraction of notices related to Waqf land
BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla on Sunday took a dig at the Congress-led Karnataka government after it retracted all notices related to Waqf land issues. He said that the government has become «a U-turn expert». «The Karnataka government has now become a U-turn expert. First, it says that there was no MUDA scam, and then it returns to the land of the MUDA scam. Now Siddaramaiah has ordered that no farmer's land will be taken,» Shehzad Poonawalla told ANI. «But Waqf is not stopping at all, 53 Waqf properties have been identified in Vijayapura and Karnataka. This clearly means that the Congress wanted to give the farmers' land to Waqf, to its vote bank, in a planned manner. Today, when the process of bringing amendments in Waqf takes place in JPC, the Congress opposes it,» he added.

US says Iranian-American held in Iran as tensions high following Israeli attack on country
Iranian-American journalist who once worked for a U.S. government-funded broadcaster is believed to have been detained by Iran for months now, authorities said Sunday, further raising the stakes as Tehran threatens to retaliate over an Israeli attack on the country. The imprisonment of Reza Valizadeh, acknowledged to The Associated Press by the U.S. State Department, came as Iran marked the 45th anniversary of the American Embassy takeover and hostage crisis on Sunday. It also followed Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei threatening both Israel and the U.S. the day before with «a crushing response» as long-range B-52 bombers reached the Middle East in an attempt to deter Tehran. Valizadeh had worked for Radio Farda, an outlet under Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty that's overseen by the U.S. Agency for Global Media. In February, he wrote on the social platform X that his family members had been detained in an effort to see him return to Iran.

You won't believe how much King Charles and Prince William's estate profits from cash-strapped charities and public services
Channel 4’s Dispatches and the Sunday Times has revealed that King Charles and Prince William’s private estates are receiving significant funds from cash-strapped charities and public services. The estates, known as the Duchies of Lancaster and Cornwall, reportedly earn millions from leasing land and buildings. The investigation found that the royals’ estates have amassed at least £50 million from leasing land to public services including the NHS, state schools, and prisons. One notable contract involves the Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS hospital trust in London, which will pay £11.4 million over 15 years to use a warehouse owned by the Duchy of Lancaster for its electric ambulance fleet. King Charles is also expected to generate an estimated £28 million from windfarms, as the Duchy of Lancaster charges fees for cables crossing the foreshore. In addition, Prince William’s Duchy of Cornwall has agreed to lease Dartmoor prison to the Ministry of Justice for £37 million over 25 years. Despite this, the Ministry must handle all repairs for the currently unoccupied facility.

Lower sales realisation hit margins of cement makers in Q2
sales realisation. Barring three leading cement producers — UltraTech Cement, Ambuja Cement, and Dalmia Bharat — other smaller players, including Nuvoco Vistas Corp, JK Cement, Birla Corporation, and Heidelberg Cement, reported a decline in topline and sales volume in the second quarter of the current fiscal year. Industry observers said the increase in sales volume of UltraTech and Ambuja Cements is mainly due to the several acquisitions by both companies that consolidated their position further in the industry. The industry also faced challenges such as extended monsoon, floods, and a slow pickup in government demand, cumulatively leading towards a weak demand.

BJP to implement Uniform Civil Code in Jharkhand, tribals to be out of its ambit: Amit Shah
Amit Shah on Sunday announced that the BJP will implement the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in Jharkhand if voted to power in the state, but would keep tribals out of its ambit. Shah, while releasing the saffron party's manifesto 'Sankalp Patra' for the upcoming assembly elections in Jharkhand, announced that a Displacement Commission would be formed to ensure rehabilitation of people displaced by industries and mines in the state. «Our government will introduce UCC in Jharkhand but tribals will be kept out of its ambit. The JMM government is making false propaganda that UCC will impact tribal rights and culture, which is totally baseless as they will be kept out of its ambit,» Shah said in Ranchi. «BJP, if voted to power in Jharkhand, will deliberate on the Sarna religious code issue, and take appropriate decisions. A Displacement Commission will be formed to ensure the rehabilitation of people displaced by industries and mines in Jharkhand,» he said.

Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma end disastrous home Test season ahead of make-or-break Australia tour
Virat Kohli and skipper Rohit Sharma ended what was a disastrous home Test season ahead of the highly-anticipated Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia away from home starting from November 22 onwards. In the third and final Test of the series against New Zealand, Virat and Rohit once again got out for low scores. During a run-chase of 147 runs, Rohit was dismissed for 11 runs by Matt Henry and caught by Glenn Phillips. On the other hand, Virat was dismissed for just one run in four balls on a delivery by Ajaz Patel. His woes against spinners continued as he handed an easy catch to Daryl Mitchell at slips. With these dismissals, Virat and Rohit have concluded extremely underwhelming home season consisting of series against Bangladesh and Kiwis. It does not serve as a good sign for the team ahead of the high-profile BGT series. Only a massive win in the series would help India secure their third-successive ICC World Test Championship final appearance at Lord's next year.

4,000-year-old ancient settlement discovered in Saudi Arabia’s Khaybar Oasis, sheds light on early urban life
fortified town in northwest Saudi Arabia, shedding light on the transition from nomadic to urban lifestyles. This significant discovery, located in the oasis of Khaybar, reveals the early social complexity and urban planning of ancient societies. A study published in PLOS One indicates that the town supported up to 500 residents and played an essential role in the region's history. «Preliminary archaeological survey and soundings have revealed a fortified 2.6-hectare town built around 2400-2000 BCE that lasted until at least 1500 BCE and possibly 1300 BCE but with possible interruptions, functionally subdivided into a residential area, a probable decision-making zone, and a necropolis,» the study stated.
