Dollar slides on Fed cut bets; kiwi jumps after RBNZ strikes hawkish tone
central bank suggested that more rate hikes could be in the offing. The kiwi jumped more than 1% to hit a four-month peak of $0.6203 after the Reserve Bank of New Zealand (RBNZ) kept interest rates steady, as expected, but revised its official cash rate (OCR) track higher for 2024 and 2025, pointing to further tightening ahead. «Whilst the RBNZ were expected to hold, their statement struck a hawkish tone by stating that inflation remains too high,» said Matt Simpson, senior market analyst at City Index. The Australian dollar similarly scaled a four-month top of $0.6670, unfazed by domestic data showing inflation eased by more than expected in October as goods prices fell, while core inflation also edged down. The Antipodean currencies got a lift from a falling greenback, which tumbled to an over three-month low against a basket of currencies as bets grow that the U.S. Federal Reserve could begin cutting rates early next year. Fed Governor Christopher Waller — a known hawkish and influential voice at the central bank — on Tuesday flagged a possible rate cut in the months ahead, feeding market expectations that U.S.

Companies pay more for debt fundraise as liquidity's tight
funds sloshing about within the financial system during the Covid pandemic, top-rated companies are now paying more to raise money through bond markets, with the pricing of issues by even the likes of Reliance Industries reflecting the divergence between sovereign and corporate debt. Over the past year-and-a-half, as the Reserve Bank of India has raised interest rates and progressively drained the banking system of excess liquidity, the spreads between government bond (Gsec) yields and AAA-rated corporate bond yields have shot up. The rate of interest that companies pay to investors to raise money through bonds is determined by yields on Gsecs. A higher spread implies a rise in borrowing costs for companies vis-a-vis what the government pays to raise funds. While the spreads for 5-year and 10-year AAA corporate bonds are still lower than the historical average of 43 basis points and 50 basis points, respectively, the gap has increased significantly from just 1 bps and 6 bps at the end of April 2022, data provided to ET by CRISIL Market Intelligence and Analytics showed.

From IPO hot run to listing day fireworks
investors should expect from these IPOs: What are the chances of investors getting allotments in these IPOs? Four of the five IPOs that closed last week saw heavy subscriptions in the retail category where investors could apply for a single lot worth ₹15,000. Hence the probability for investors who bid in the retail category for IPOs of IREDA, Tata Technologies, Gandhar Oil, and Flair Writing could be slim. For instance, in the case of IREDA, which will be listed on November 29, 71 out of 375 retail applicants received 460 shares.

New-age endorsement deals: Virtual influencers now making real money
social media influencers, Kyra and Naina have hit the big time. Only thing is, they’re not actually real, not entirely anyway. Titan, RealMe, MG Motors and Boat are paying a premium to advertise through 3D-animated humans or virtual influencers, who have become quite the phenomena on Instagram with views of up to 21 million for their reels. Kyra is the handiwork of Futr Studios. The virtual character works with brands such as Titan and Boat and is paid more than real-life influencers with similar follower numbers. Naina by Avtr Meta Labs will soon launch her first AI podcast series with actors such as Richa Chadha, Sanya Malhotra, Sobhita Dhulipala and Hansika Motvani. While Kyra is a fully 3D-animated character, Naina is more of a hybrid--a face superimposed over a real human.

We will look into it if disclosures on IPO valuation are meaningless, says Sebi chief
Sebi Chairperson Madhabi Puri Buch has said the regulator would certainly look into the matter if disclosures on the valuation are meaningless. The comments have come amid a slew of share sales hitting the capital market recently. Last week, five companies, including Tata Technologies, came out with their IPOs that garnered a record Rs 2.6 lakh crore in application amount. To a query about high premiums for some shares in IPOs, Buch said, «Of course, we are fully with you on this as the rationale given for high premia are nothing but some meaningless English words». «We are certainly going to look into it and address the issue,» she said. When asked about concerns in some quarters that some IPOs are priced exorbitantly, the Sebi chief said, «If disclosures on valuation are meaningless then we will certainly look into it.» It can be noted that to boost investors' interest in little-known companies' IPOs, the issuers and their investment bankers quote low face value but the issue is priced high citing a very high premium. On whether Sebi is planning to advise issuers and other market makers to space their issues in a more timely manner and with enough gaps between two issues, Buch said that is not the job of the regulator.

India's pharma biz can reach USD 130 billion by 2030: Industry experts
pharmaceutical business may exceed USD 130 billion by 2030, supported by expanding market opportunities and heightened demand in the overseas markets, industry experts said on Tuesday. The business stood at over USD 50 billion for the 2022-23 fiscal, they noted. Chairman of PharmExcil (Pharmaceuticals Export Promotion Council of India) Veeramani S V said the Indian pharmaceutical industry is on a compelling growth trajectory, evidenced by an 8 per cent year-to-date increase in exports and a remarkable 29 per cent surge in October alone. «This growth is propelled by expanding market opportunities, heightened demand in the USA, and critical shortages of medicines in the US and Europe. Despite challenges in CIS countries, the global reception of Indian pharmaceuticals remains positive,» he said. Veeramani noted that the domestic market has exhibited impressive growth, exceeding 10 per cent.

A wealth doubler? Tata Technologies shares to list on November 30
Tata Technologies will list on the exchanges on Thursday, nearly 20 years after a company from Tata Group (TCS) debuted at the bourses. The GMP of the company is strong at Rs 400, which indicates robust debut with 80% premium. There is a high possibility as per street assumption that Tata Technologies can be a wealth doubler candidate post listing. Listing gains aside, analysts are quite bullish on the company even from a long-term perspective. “Technologies' diversified customer portfolio, robust delivery network, and emphasis on innovation further solidify its competitive advantage," said Shivani Nyati, Head of Wealth, Swastika Investmart. The Rs 3,042-cr IPO of Tata Technologies received bids worth over Rs 1.5 lakh crore.
