Mehak Khanna, Partner at law firm Khaitan & Khaitan, says, «The amount of severance payable to an employee usually depends upon the law that applies to them and/or the terms of their employment contract. It is important to note that severance pay is not mandatory for all employees under the current labour laws.» Currently, an employee can be governed under the central government's Industrial Disputes Act, the states' Shops and Establishments Acts or both.

Coal India Ltd, part of the coal sector, has rallied by about 30% in a month which pushed the stock to a fresh record high in September 2023 and the chart pattern suggests that the rally may not be over and will continue in October. The stock rose from Rs 228 as of 30 August 2023 to Rs 297 which is the record high registered on 29 September 2023. The upside translates into a rally of about 30% in a month. After the breakout from the critical resistance of 26-270 which proved to be a critical hurdle back in June 2019 in September 2023 provided much needed momentum to the stock. On the monthly charts, an upward-sloping trendline is giving support.

What is the use of e-mandate in a mutual fund scheme?
mutual funds through SIPs. A deeper look at what it means: A mandate is an instruction provided by an account holder to the bank to automate his recurring payment. E-mandate is a digital payment service introduced jointly by RBI (Reserve Bank of India) and NPCI (National Payments Corporation of India). Almost all large banks in India provide these facilities. They are hassle-free and reduce the burden on individuals to make timely payments. Typically, these are often used by investors who invest in mutual funds using systematic investment plans (SIPs). Earlier, investors filled a physical form to make recurring payments through SIPs, which was time-consuming and challenging. Once an E-mandate is set up it reduces the SIP registration time from earlier 21 days to 5-7 days now and hence is becoming popular. How can you set up an e-mandate ? Investors need to complete a one-time registration process for setting up a mandate with the fund house, registrar or through third-party portals that distribute mutual funds. In the case of sending a physical mandate a request form needs to be submitted and this process could take 3-4 weeks. Investors can set up an E-mandate digitally with their net banking authentication and it is completely paperless. Registration is done through internet banking of respective banks using net-banking credentials, while in some banks, even debit cards can be used. Some portals also use ‘E-sign’ using Aadhaar to set up mandates.

Finolex Cables yet to disclose AGM voting results on reappointment of executive chairman
Finolex Cables has not yet disclosed the outcome of voting by shareholders pertaining to the resolution related to the reappointment of Deepak Chhabria as an «executive chairman» in its annual general meeting (AGM) held on September 29. Finolex Cables' scrutiniser, in a disclosure submitted to the stock exchange, has revealed that, in light of the Supreme Court's directive, the voting results are kept in abeyance until the National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) passes its final orders. This development has arisen amid an ongoing dispute between the two cousins, Prakash Chhabria and Deepak Chhabria. Finolex Cables had proposed a resolution for reappointing Deepak Chhabria for five years, from July 1, 2023, to June 30, 2028. Last Tuesday, the Supreme Court vacated the NCLAT's interim direction and allowed Orbit Electricals, led by Prakash Chhabria, to vote at the Finolex Cables AGM.
