Modi regime ignored manufacturing, jobs creation, says Priyanka Gandhi Vadra
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Monday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had ignored the manufacturing sector and job creation, while seeking to promote his friends in the business. The Modi regime was taking away the lands of tribal people and handing them to the PM’s friends in the business, she said addressing campaign rallies in Wayanad where she is contesting the November 13 bypolls as UDF Candidate. All PSUs, road contracts, seaports and airports were being handed to Modi’s friends, she said. “Tribals are the soul of Wayanad.” The AICC leader accused the NDA regime of weakening the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee (MNREGA) programme while interacting with women labourers in the plantation regions of Wayanad. She also highlighted her concerns about the programme in her campaign speeches.

Confident of win in Jharkhand, Maharashtra but 'watchful' of Haryana-like 'mischief' by BJP: Jairam Ramesh
Congress is confident of securing a decisive mandate in Jharkhand and Maharashtra but is «extra watchful» to avoid a repeat of any Haryana-like «last-minute mischief» by the BJP and the local administration, senior party leader Jairam Ramesh said on Monday. In an interview with PTI, Ramesh said the decision on the chief ministerial face of the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) in Maharashtra would be taken after the November 23 results and expressed confidence that the selection of the alliance's chief ministerial face would be a «smooth affair». As the campaign heats up for the assembly polls in Jharkhand and Maharashtra, Ramesh dismissed suggestions that the momentum had shifted away from the INDIA bloc following the Congress' defeat in Haryana and said the alliance was confident of securing a decisive mandate in the two states. «It is true that the result in Haryana was unexpected as far as the Congress is concerned. We are confident in Maharashtra where we have a very strong alliance, and we are very confident in Jharkhand where also we are fighting in an alliance,» the Congress general secretary in-charge communications said.

People will pick educated candidate not party hoppers, says poll debutante Varun Sardesai of Sena (UBT)
Varun Sardesai's maiden assembly election, but he is confident of winning the Bandra East seat in Mumbai by a big margin, as he thinks people will choose an educated candidate instead of party hoppers. In an interview to PTI, Sardesai, who is a maternal cousin of Shiv Sena (UBT) leader and former state minister Aaditya Thackeray, said he is focusing on presenting his vision of development to people and not paying heed to his rivals. The poll debutante, who studied civil engineering from the Columbia University in the US, also feels that the MLAs, who switched sides and betrayed their parties, will be taught a lesson by voters in the November 20 state elections. The Sena (UBT) has fielded Sardesai from Bandra East assembly segment against Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) candidate and sitting MLA Zeeshan Siddique and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena's Trupti Sawant. Sardesai said the issue of splits in Shiv Sena and NCP is more relevant in the assembly elections than it was in the Lok Sabha elections held earlier this year.

Hamas official says group rejected Gaza truce proposal
Hamas official said Friday the group received a proposal from mediators Egypt and Qatar for a short-term truce in Gaza and rejected it for not including a lasting ceasefire. «The proposals do not include a permanent cessation of aggression, nor do they entail the withdrawal of the Israeli army from the Gaza Strip or the return of displaced persons,» the official, a member of Hamas's political bureau, told on condition of anonymity as he was not authorised to speak publicly on the issue. A senior Hamas leader, Taher al-Nunu, had already warned on Thursday that the group would reject any proposal for a temporary halt to the fighting.

Donald Trump says Liz Cheney might not be such a 'war hawk' if she had rifles shooting at her
Donald Trump is suggesting that former Rep. Liz Cheney, one of his most prominent Republican critics, should have rifles «shooting at her» to see how she feels about sending troops to fight. Cheney responded by branding the GOP presidential nominee a «cruel, unstable man who wants to be a tyrant.» The Republican presidential candidate has been using increasingly threatening rhetoric against his adversaries and talked of "enemies from within" undermining the country. Some of his former senior aides and Vice President Kamala Harris have labeled him a fascist in response. Trump has also long blamed Cheney and her father, former Republican Vice President Dick Cheney, for promoting U.S. military interventions abroad — including the war in Iraq — and argued that he started no foreign wars during his presidency.
