Image of 'Singham' cop delivering instant justice sends out dangerous message: Bombay High Court judge
hero cop" delivering quick justice without bothering about the due process of law, as shown in blockbuster films like "Singham", sends out a very harmful message, Justice Gautam Patel of the Bombay High Court said on Friday. Speaking at a function organised by the Indian Police Foundation to mark its annual day and Police Reforms Day, he also questioned people's «impatience» with the process of law. Talking about police reforms, the judge said that the Supreme Court's judgement in the Prakash Singh case was an «opportunity missed», and also noted that the law enforcement machinery can not be reformed unless we reform ourselves. The image of police as «bullies, corrupt and unaccountable» is a populist one and the same can be said about anyone in the public life including judges, politicians and journalists, he said. When the public thinks that the courts are not doing their job, it celebrates when the police step in, the judge said. «This is why when a rape accused is killed in an encounter while allegedly trying to flee, people think it is not just alright but it is celebrated. Justice has been served, they feel, but has it?» he said. This view is deeply pervasive and reflected strongly in our popular culture, especially in Indian cinema, Justice Patel noted. «In movies, police rail against judges who are shown as docile, timid, thickly-spectacled and often very badly dressed.

‘Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin’ Season 2: This is what we know so far
Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin’ as strikes hit Hollywood. The renewal was announced in January after the first season's debut on November 23, 2022, but viewing data wasn't released. The cancellation follows similar decisions due to strikes, including Amazon Prime Video's 'The Peripheral' and 'A League of Their Own.' The strike by the Writers Guild of America (WGA) began on May 2, causing ‘Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin’ to fall behind schedule for season two. Peacock and Amazon Prime Video have made similar renewal reversals during the pandemic. Negotiations have resumed between WGA and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP), raising hopes for a resolution to the labor dispute. The strike has been ongoing for five months, nearing the guild's previous record of 154 days in 1988. ‘Pitch Perfect: Bumper in Berlin’ featured Adam Devine, reprising his role as Bumper Allen from the 'Pitch Perfect' film series. He portrayed the leader of an all-male a cappella group, attempting to revive his music career in Germany. The show also starred Flula Borg, Sarah Hyland, Lera Abova, and Jameela Jamil. Megan Amram from 'The Good Place' served as showrunner and executive producer alongside Elizabeth Banks, Max Handelman, Devine, and more from 'Pitch Perfect 2.'

In comparison, 'Expendables 3' earned $875,000 in Thursday preview grosses back in 2014, as per reports. Sanatana Dharma row: SC notice to Udhayanidhi Stalin
Supreme Court on Friday sought response of Tamil Nadu minister Udhayanidhi Stalin on a plea seeking registration of a criminal case against him over his recent remarks on Sanatana Dharma. A bench of justices Aniruddha Bose and Bela M Trivedi issued notices to the DMK leader on the plea filed by a Tamil Nadu advocate, B Jagannath. The petitioner told the bench that there has been a call for «eradication of a faith». Although the bench sought a response from Udhayanidhi, it clarified that the instant matter will not be tagged with the pending cases pertaining to hate speech. The petitioner argued that the September 2 conference where Udhayanidhi made the controversial remarks against Sanatana Dharma be declared unconstitutional for being violative of the right to freedom of religion. The petition also sought an injunction to restrain the Tamil Nadu minister from making such remarks and to prevent the holding of such events in future. Recently, 262 eminent persons including 14 retired high court judges had in a letter to Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud sought suo motu cognisance of Udhayanidhi Stalin's remarks on Sanatana Dharma. Udhayanidhi had said that Sanatana Dharma divides people in the name of caste and religion, and hence should be eradicated.
