What are the red flags in the financial journey of people without regular income?
Nehal Mota, Co-Founder, Finnovate, says “someone who is still thinking whether he should be joining the job market or be an entrepreneur, needs to be really sure that they can maintain the lifestyle which they are living for the next 18 months at least. Can you actually live for 1,000 days or a three-year period just from the income which the business may or may not generate? If you can, then you should really think of taking this plunge as an entrepreneur and even have a small business plan. ”We are talking about self-employed individuals like freelancers, entrepreneurs, gig workers or even someone trying to enter the workforce. For people who do not have a regular income, what could be the red flags in their entire financial journey according to you? There are a few things which we see as a pattern with financials of self-employed people. First of all, they mix their personal finance a lot with the business finance. The second thing which we have seen is that at times, they do not factor in their own personal expenses or a take-home from their business. They would have planned all the business expenses.

India’s growth potential can easily accommodate existing, new players in MF industry: JM Financial MF
Even though the mutual fund industry in India has been competitive, the growth has remained largely steady, thanks to the strong inflows, particularly in the last three years. With newer players such as Zerodha, Groww making their entry into the $560 billion mutual fund industry, and Jio Financial Services looking to soon enter, the competition is likely to get hot. However,Seemant Shukla ofJM Financial Mutual Fund believes that India is quite an underpenetrated market globally, leaving enough opportunities for both existing as well as new players. “The anticipated growth in India can easily accommodate both existing and new players with varying strategies, be it passive or active investments,” Shukla, who is the chief business officer at the asset management company, told ETMarkets in an interview. Shukla believes that digitalisation and digital channels can contribute in a big way to expand the reach. “Considering that the US has multiple asset management companies for a population of 35 crore, it’s clear that we have a long journey ahead of us,” he said. Edited excerpts:Institutional interest in IPO issues has increased significantly in recent times. What’s driving this frenzy? After experiencing significant growth in 2017-18, the IPO market reached its peak in 2021-22, and since then, continued to maintain strong traction.

WHO chief pushes China for 'full access' to determine COVID's origins: Financial Times
World Health Organization urged Beijing to offer more information on the origins of COVID-19 and is ready to send a second team to probe the matter, the Financial Times reported on Sunday. «We're pressing China to give full access, and we are asking countries to raise it during their bilateral meetings — to urge Beijing to co-operate,» WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus told the newspaper. The WHO chief's comments come as health authorities and pharmaceutical companies across the world have been racing to update vaccines to combat newer emerging coronavirus variants. Ghebreyesus has for long been pressing China to share its information about the origins of COVID-19, saying that until that happened all hypotheses remained on the table. The virus was first identified in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December 2019, with many suspecting it spread in a live animal market before fanning out around the world and killing nearly 7 million people.

UCO Bank target is to grow operating profit by 15% this financial year: MD
Ashwani Kumar, MD & CEO, UCO Bank, says “our target is to grow operating profit by 15% during this financial year and on a year-on-year basis and profit after tax is a play of provisions and going forward looking at the PCR, we are having around 94-95% PCR and our net NPA is already 1.19% and the provisioning requirements on a quarter-on-quarter basis, on year-on-year basis will come down. Our gross NPA is also coming down. It has come down to 4.48% this quarter and we will continue to see the declining trend in the remaining quarters as well and with all this in place, the ROA will improve in the coming quarters.”There is a section of the market which believes that the last few quarters of credit growth have been very strong. From here on, on the one hand, yes, there is festive season where credit generally perks up but the trend would be smoothening out. Is that a trend you see developing or do you see good growth on the credit side for next four to six quarters from current levels as well?First of all, I will give you a brief data point.
