Couples with age gaps face financial challenges. How to navigate them.
. in New York. The typical 20- to 30-year retirement can stretch to 35 years or more with an age gap.Even when families recognize that extended timeline, advisors say they often underestimate how costs evolve.“They don’t tend to think about the full cost of bringing up and educating children,” or the time it can take to fully launch them, said Dan Beckerman of Beckerman Institutional in Ocean Grove, N.J.That disconnect can have consequences.

Gulf war: Is the US-Israel-Iran ceasefire a pause or tactical turning point?
The US-Iran ceasefire, framed as a two-week conditional truce, offers relief but is less of a resolution than a pause in a fast-escalating crisis. It follows nearly 40 days of sustained US-Israeli military pressure on Iran, itself an extension of the unresolved tensions that persisted after the 2025 Iran-Israel confrontation. In that sense, this ceasefire is simply a momentary recalibration in a longer strategic contest. At its core, the arrangement reflects a transactional bargain.

Electric car makers urge Karnataka to reconsider new 5-10% tax
Mint and a person familiar with the matter. The companies have sought a meeting with Siddaramaiah, warning that the move could affect air pollution goals, oil imports, energy security and the investment outlook for India’s EV industry.Mint reported on 31 March that Karnataka had reversed its earlier EV road tax waiver, a step that risks slowing adoption in one of India’s key EV markets. In 2025, the state accounted for 12% of the country’s electric car sales, with more than 21,000 units sold and passenger vehicle penetration of 6.4%, compared with 4% nationally.“The objective of this engagement is to share industry perspectives on the recent revisions in Road Tax applicable to electric passenger vehicles in the Karnataka State.

Let’s mBridge the gap: India mustn’t stand aloof as new digital payment mechanisms emerge
The West Asia escalation has brought back into focus a structural vulnerability that has long remained underappreciated in policy discourse. Energy flows translate into payment flows, and both are now increasingly mediated by financial architectures that reflect geopolitical reality as much as economic logic. These are not passive conduits, as they can shape outcomes—by enabling, delaying or, in extreme cases, constraining the movement of money across borders. At the heart of this evolving dynamic lies mBridge, an initiative incubated under the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) for interoperability among multiple central bank digital currencies (CBDCs).

The gap between reported and felt inflation is about to widen: RBI should take note
On 12 March, when February inflation printed at 3.2%, the war in West Asia had been raging for 13 days. Oil company retail agencies, which sell cylinders of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) at an administered price to registered users, shuttered their doors, anticipating supply cuts. Consumers were forced to turn to the informal market, where the price had risen five-fold by 12 March, relative to the regulated price even without the Ujjwala price subsidy.

Mis-selling malaise: RBI's recent proposals are welcome but not enough to curb malpractices
The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) recently issued draft amendments to its Responsible Business Conduct Regulations. These cover the advertising, marketing and sales of financial products and services by banks, non-bank financial companies and other all-India financial institutions either by their own staff or by direct sales or marketing agents. The most consequential element in RBI’s proposals is that for the first time they define ‘mis-selling’ to include any sale of a product or service that is neither suitable nor appropriate for a customer profile even with customer consent.
