markets Digital Gap Trade Universities reports Updates As drought threat grows, a 'dead tree' emoji is coming
climate change: an emoji depicting a tree without leaves. Approval of the emoji was revealed in an update earlier this year from the Unicode Consortium. The leafless tree — also known as the "dead tree" or «dying tree» emoji — was first pitched in 2022 by Brian Baihaki, who saw a gap in messaging graphics that touch on environmentalism. «Drought is a natural part of the climate cycle… but the climate is changing (and) drought (is becoming) more frequent, severe, and even (spreading) to other places,» Baihaki noted. «Eventually, all the resources that the trees have will be exhausted.»

markets Gap Research Simulation Universities information AI could be capable of 'learning by thinking', say researchers
Artificial intelligence (AI) too could be capable of 'learning by thinking', which is known to be core to a great discovery, according to a review. Cognitive scientists have documented how people learn from observation, in which one acquires knowledge by observing the external world. However, another way of learning — a relatively neglected one — is 'learning by thinking', in which one gains knowledge without input from the external world, such as through thought experiments or self-explanations, according to Tania Lombrozo, a professor of psychology at the Princeton University and the author of the review published in the journal 'Trends in Cognitive Sciences'. In a thought experiment, one hypothetically explores a theory or a principle by thinking through its consequences, whereas in learning through self-explanations, one makes a sense of new information by relating it with what they already know.

Amit Shah on Tuesday said any conspiracy to cause railway accidents will not last long and the government will soon unveil an initiative for the protection of the 1.10 lakh km railway network across the country. The home minister's remarks came in the wake of a series of railway accidents, most of which appeared to be attempts at sabotage as obstructions were placed on the railway tracks. Addressing a press conference to mark 100 days of the third tenure of the BJP-led NDA government, Shah said he had discussed the issue of railway safety with Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw over the last two days. «As far as accidents are concerned, we will investigate the root cause of this. Whatever the reason, the government is committed to addressing the issue. If this is a conspiracy, it will not last long. If there are gaps, they will be plugged,» Shah said with Vaishnaw by his side.

markets Manufacturing Gap Highways Research reports testing Air in your car cabin could lead to cancer, neurological, and reproductive issues: Here’s what study says
National Green Tribunal (NGT) by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) has revealed that some flame-retardant chemicals found in car cabin air, which may be carcinogenic, are not listed under the Manufacture, Storage, and Import of Hazardous Chemicals Rules 1989. This report highlights a potential regulatory gap, as these rules were issued by the Union Ministry of Environment. The CPCB’s report, dated September 10, 2024, noted that no testing had been conducted on these chemicals and recommended that the tribunal consult agencies overseeing automobile safety standards, which are regulated by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways. This issue gained attention in June when the NGT’s principal bench, led by Justice Prakash Shrivastava, took suo motu notice of a media report indicating the presence of «carcinogenic flame retardants» in cars. The claim, which is being investigated by the US National Toxicology Program, prompted the NGT to request a report from CPCB on the matter.
