The World Bank's latest economic update, released on Thursday, attributed the «abrupt decrease» in Saudi economic activity to «lower oil production levels amidst subdued prices.» It had forecast Saudi GDP growth at 2.9% in 2023 in its April update. Growth for the six-member Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) of oil and gas exporters is expected to decelerate to 1% in 2023, down from 7.3% last year, and sharply below the 3.2% forecast in the World Bank's April update.

Supreme Court on Thursday reserved its verdict on reconsideration of its 1998 judgement which had held that MPs and MLAs enjoy immunity from prosecution for taking bribe to make a speech or vote in legislature. The constitution bench headed by Chief Justice D Y Chandrachud reserved the verdict after hearing a battery of senior lawyers including Attorney General R Venkataramani and Solicitor General Tushar Mehta. The larger bench is reconsidering the 1998 verdict delivered in the JMM bribery case by a five-judge bench by which the MPs and MLAs were granted immunity from prosecution for taking bribe to make a speech or vote in legislature.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh in connection with its ongoing money laundering probe in the Delhi liquor policy scandal. Singh was arrested after the federal agency carried out searches at his residence on Wednesday morning. Singh was arrested on grounds of alleged non-cooperation with the probe agency and giving evasive replies. Nongthombam Biren Singh on Tuesday flayed a man and even announced monetary reward leading to his arrest for uploading a misleading ‘rumour’ on the social media. The unknown man, in his post, loaded a video of a motorcade of heavy vehicles carrying huge machines ostensibly in Imphal, and said the mammoth devices carried by 20/30 trucks are probably meant for mining platinum and uranium. Biren, in a video message attached with the video of the man uploaded in his (CM) Facebook page, said the machines are meant for cleaning and dredging Phumdis (floating biomasses) from the dying Lamphelpat (Lamphel lake) located in the peripheries of Imphal West district. Owing to the lake’s fading status, there have been repeated flash floods during rains, affecting the people hugely, added Biren. For the last four/five years the government has been extending all out efforts to save Lamphelpat and to prevent it from triggering sudden floods, Biren said. The CM further added that a work order for cleaning the lake has been released only recently.
