P2P lending slows as RBI move clouds future of key players
peer-to-peer lending industry has slumped to a major slowdown with most of the large players in this space staring at an uncertain future, after the Reserve Bank of India came down heavily on the sector last year for not properly abiding by regulatory guidelines. The P2P sector’s assets under management (AUM) have shrunk to less than Rs 3,000 crore from around Rs 10,000 crore a year back, according to two founders of P2P lending startups, who spoke on the condition of anonymity. “There are hardly any new loans that are being done by the platforms; most of the large platforms have stopped onboarding so business is staring at a major uncertainty,” said one of the founders.

Old cars, no fuel from April 1: Delhi petrol pumps to scan and stop overage vehicles, impose hefty penalties
overage vehicles, petrol pumps across the city are being equipped with Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras from April 1, as per TOI. These ANPR cameras will help identify vehicles exceeding the age limits set by the National Green Tribunal (NGT), enabling petrol stations to refuse fuel to such vehicles. A senior official stated that the initiative aims to ensure better compliance with the government's directive by preventing older vehicles from accessing fuel at authorised stations across Delhi. As per NGT's order, the restriction applies to petrol vehicles over 15 years old and diesel vehicles older than 10 years. Environment Minister Manjinder Sirsa said on Friday, «To reduce vehicular pollution, devices are being installed at fuel stations throughout the city to identify such vehicles, and these cars will be denied fuel.» He further explained that the cameras read and digitalise number plates in real time. Delhi has nearly 500 fuel stations, and ANPRs are already installed at 80% of them. Sirsa mentioned that when an overage vehicle arrives for refuelling, the system will announce it as a defaulter. This system is connected to a central database that checks for violators based on their registration numbers, retrieving details from the government's Vahan portal. Delhi's government has deregistered over 59 lakh such vehicles till last September, with two-wheelers making up the largest share. However, many of these vehicles continue to violate NGT's guidelines and operate on the roads. Delhi began a drive to lift overage vehicles in March 2021. Sirsa added, «We are very serious on the issue of vehicular pollution, and this initiative is part of that.»

Congress hits out at govt over air quality report putting India as 5th most polluted country
fifth most polluted country, and demanded that all «anti-people» environmental law amendments over the past 10 years be rolled back. In a statement, Congress General Secretary (Communications) Jairam Ramesh said the Swiss air quality technology company IQAIR has just released its 2024 World Air Quality Report which finds that India is the world's fifth most polluted country. The Rajya Sabha MP said in his statement that according to the report, India's population-weighted average concentration of fine particulate matter is 50.6 g/m3 which is 10 times the WHO's annual guideline level of 5 g/m3. He claimed that according to the report, 74 of the world's 100 most polluted cities are in India, and national capital New Delhi is the second-most polluted city in the world after Brynihat in Meghalaya. «Among the lesser-known tragedies of the non-biological PM's reign is the rapidly deteriorating air quality nationally and the inattentiveness and policy chaos that has characterised the government's response to it,» he said in his statement. Ramesh cited several studies in the past about air pollution-linked fatalities in the country.

Bengaluru park forbids jogging, asks people to 'walk clockwise': Netizens ask, 'Will they ban Western clothes next?'
Accompanying her post with an image on X (previously known as Twitter), she shared a snapshot of a signboard listing various park guidelines, which included instructions like “No Jogging,” “Walk in a Clockwise Manner,” and “No Recreational Games.” Sahana, the concerned citizen, raised questions about these directives, particularly focusing on the ban on jogging in a place meant for exercise and outdoor activities. In her online post, she expressed shock at the restriction, challenging the logic behind preventing individuals from jogging in the park. She also employed sarcasm to make her point, suggesting that, at this rate, the next rule might involve outlawing Western attire in public parks.

Is LIC stock undervalued? Kotak Equities suggests buying with Rs 1,175 target
Life Insurance Corporation of India (LIC) looks inexpensive, domestic brokerage firm Kotak Institutional Equities has maintained a ‘buy’ call on the stock, revising its target down to Rs 1,175 from an earlier Rs 1,250, to reflect a lower investment return following the recent correction in equities. “The correction in equities and a severe slowdown in business, following the surrender value guidelines, continue to weigh on the prospects of LIC. Trends in (equity) markets have high sensitivity and drive over 50% of its EV. The slowdown in APE and management’s stance on dealing with the same are monitorable. Inexpensive valuations support our BUY rating,” said the domestic brokerage firm.

UPI ID linked to inactive mobile number? With this move of NPCI, it will be hard to misuse your UPI ID with recycled number
UPI ID linked with a mobile number you dont use, or have anymore? It has not been an easy task to delink such an inactive mobile number from the UPI ID. However, going ahead, you will be able to remove, or de-link your mobile number from this UPI ID, even if you do not have that mobile number in your possession anymore. Before the end of this month (i.e., before March 31, 2025), all UPI banks and PSPs (payment service providers) will have to update their database with regards to recycled, or churned, numbers, to “reduce the chances of errors due to churned mobile numbers,” per a recent NPCI circular dated March 2025. Moreover, this will not be a one-off updation process. As the circular further notes, NPCI requires its member apps and banks to at least bring their mobile number databases up to date at least once a week, so that recycled, or churned-out, numbers are identified and weeded out more frequently. For this purpose, “the Banks, PSP apps shall use the Mobile Number Revocation List (MNRL)/Digital Intelligence Platform (DIP),” the circular adds.
