Remark country Inside Kolkata's AJC Bose college bans 'indecent dresses' like torn jeans, asks students to sign affidavit
Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose College (AJC Bose College) have introduced a strict dress code for first-year students, sparking a debate over the definition of «indecent dresses» and «normal civil dresses.» According to the college's directive, first-year students are required to sign an affidavit in which they pledge not to wear torn or artificially torn jeans or any form of indecent attire on college premises, a TOI report stated. The affidavit, a copy of which is now mandatory for admission, reads, «Having been admitted to Acharya Jagadish Chandra Bose College, I will never enter inside college premises wearing torn/artificially torn jeans or any kind of indecent dresses. I do hereby affirm that I shall wear normal civil dresses during my study period inside the entire college premises.» This decision comes in the wake of a similar notice issued by the college last year, which cautioned both students and staff against wearing «torn or artificially torn jeans». Citi Booking Pool cover Inside dance Best itinerary to spend 36 hours in Cartagena, Colombia
Cartagena de Indias, a colonial port city on Colombia's Caribbean coast, can be so hypnotically hot (even with the ocean breeze and occasional tropical downpour) that visitors may feel as if they are drifting through a dream world of cobblestone lanes and Afro-Colombian drumbeats — a sensation captured by the magical realism in Gabriel Garcia Marquez's Cartagena-set novels. A weekend is perfect for a robust introduction through two adjacent, walkable neighborhoods. The Old Town is still surrounded by the stone walls built by Spanish colonists, who also left behind opulent mansions and churches. Neighboring Getsemani is an artsy, semi-residential enclave with a popular street-party scene, overlooked by the 16th-century fortress that looms on a hill nearby. And if the heat does get to you, order a limonada de coco, the slushy coconut limeade that keeps coastal Colombians deliciously cool. ITINERARYFriday3 p.m. | Snack your way around Kick off a visit with a walking tour through the city's connected Old Town and Getsemani neighborhoods, the triangular heart of the city between the Caribbean Sea and San Lazaro Lagoon. Several groups offer free walking tours departing from the egg-yolk-colored main gate and clock tower, called the Puerta del Reloj, the original entrance into the walled city. For a more curated experience, Cartagena Connections adapts guided tours to visitors' interests, such as architecture, history or photography (two-hour group tours start around 123,000 Colombian pesos, or $30, per person; private tour rates vary). The popular street food tour includes stops to taste wedges of salted green mango, corn arepas filled with cheese, and mamoncillo, a local lychee-like fruit.

DNA Duke Biogen show Inside Experimental blood test may be able to detect Parkinson's disease-related DNA damage, says study
blood test that detected Parkinson's disease in a preliminary study could become the first specific tool for diagnosing the devastating neurodegenerative condition, researchers said on Wednesday. The test, which looks for cell damage associated with the disease, is years away from being commercially available. If its reliability is confirmed in future trials, the test would allow doctors to diagnose the condition earlier and start therapies sooner, before nervous system damage worsens, the researchers said. «Currently, Parkinson's disease is diagnosed largely based on symptoms, when patients already have significant neurological damage,» said study leader Laurie Sanders of Duke School of Medicine in Durham, North Carolina. The new blood test measures DNA damage in mitochondria, the structures inside cells that generate energy for cellular functions.
