NEW DELHI : Forecasting a fresh spell of moderate rainfall over central and adjoining northwest India, including Delhi, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) Sunday said a fresh western disturbance will impact Western Himalayan regions in the next 48 hours. Issuing an orange alert for Haryana, Punjab, Delhi, Madhya Pradesh, and parts of Rajasthan for Monday and Tuesday, the weather department’s bulletin said “A fresh rainfall spell likely over northwest and central India on January 8 and 9." The weather department also issued an alert for thunderstorms and hailstorms at isolated places in West Madhya Pradesh in the next 24 hours and East Rajasthan on Monday and Tuesday.

Delhi government has revoked a recently issued order that extended the winter vacation period for schools across the national capital. The Department of Education clarified that the earlier decision to prolong the winter break was a mistake. Consequently, the order has been promptly withdrawn, with an expectation for a resolution on the matter by tomorrow morning. Delhi's Directorate of Education hinted at the possibility of issuing new directives regarding the winter break in the near future. The revised order, dated January 6, 2024, stated, «Order No.DE.23(3)/Sch.Br./2024/18 regarding extension of Winter Vacation stands withdrawn with immediate effect.

Delhi and the National Capital Region remained in the clutches of a persistent cold spell on Saturday morning, causing low visibility and subsequent flight delays at the Delhi airport due to dense fog. Earlier, the minimum temperatures, recorded at 8.30 am on Friday over the past 24 hours, ranged between 6-10°C across most parts of Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, West Rajasthan, and certain areas in East Rajasthan and West Uttar Pradesh.
