Investing.com-- Oil prices moved little in Asian trade on Wednesday, sticking to near five-month lows after a warning on China's economy rattled markets, while signs of an unexpected build in U.S. crude stockpiles also added to pressure on prices.

WASHINGTON : US job openings fell to more than a 2-1/2-year low in October, the strongest sign yet that higher interest rates were dampening demand for workers, and boosting financial markets expectations the Federal Reserve's monetary policy tightening cycle was over. The Labor Department's Job Openings and Labor Turnover Survey, or JOLTS report, on Tuesday also showed that there were 1.34 vacancies for every unemployed person in October, the lowest since August 2021 and down from 1.47 in September. Fewer workers are resigning, which over time could help ease wage inflation.

Reuters reported. Another development favouring soft oil prices is the record production of US crude oil, which set a record for the second month running in September. India also resumed imports of crude from Venezuela in October, ending a three-year hiatus forced by US sanctions that have since eased.

India fell to a one-year low in November on softer expansions in new work intakes and output, despite receding price pressures, a monthly survey said on Tuesday. The seasonally adjusted S&P Global India Services Business Activity Index fell from 58.4 in October to a one-year low of 56.9 in November. Despite witnessing a month-on-month decline, the rate of expansion was stronger than its long-run average.

The S&P Global India Services Purchasing Managers' Index fell to 56.9 in November from October's 58.4. A Reuters poll pegged a dip to 58.

rupee fell to its lifetime closing low on Thursday and was the worst performer among key Asian peers in November which have rallied amid a slump in US yields and the greenback. Likely intervention from the Reserve Bank of India limited further downside for the local unit on Thursday, five traders said. The rupee ended at 83.3950 against the US dollar, lower by 0.08%, compared with its previous close at 83.3250. The local unit posted a slight monthly loss of 0.1%. The central bank «mildly» sold dollars, while a large foreign bank was seen on the buying side, likely on behalf of custodial clients, a foreign exchange trader at a private bank said. The dollar index was last quoted higher at 103.14 but appears on course to register a monthly decline of more than 3%, its sharpest monthly fall in a year. Most Asian currencies jumped on the back of lower U.S.

rate hikes ahead of a crucial inflation report later in the day. The dollar index, which measures U.S. currency against six rivals, eased 0.058% to 102.74, not far from 102.46 — its lowest since Aug. 10 it touched on Wednesday. The index is down 3.7% in November on growing expectations the Fed will cut interest rates in the first half of 2024. The dollar clawed back some of its losses on Wednesday after data showed the U.S.

Investing.com — The U.S. dollar stabilized in early European trade Wednesday, remaining near a three-month low amid growing expectations that the Federal Reserve has completed its series of rate hikes and could begin cutting rates early next year.
