Shares of Bandhan Bank Ltd.(up 0.22 per cent) ended the day as top gainers in the pack. On the other hand, Bank of Baroda(down 2.95 per cent), ICICI Bank Ltd.(down 2.82 per cent), State Bank of India(down 2.15 per cent), IndusInd Bank Ltd.(down 2.02 per cent) and Punjab National Bank(down 1.89 per cent) finished as the top losers of the day. The Nifty Bank index closed 1.68 per cent down at 44623.85. Benchmark NSE Nifty50 index ended down 159.05 points at 19742.35, while the BSE Sensex stood down 570.6 points at 66230.24. Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 15 ended in the green, while 35 closed in the red. Shares of IOB, JP Power, YES Bank, Vodafone Idea and Suzlon Energy were among the most traded shares on the NSE. Shares of Jindal Photo, KSB, Dishman Carbogen, Nava Bharat Vent.

On the BSE, Ganga Pharmaceutical(down 20.00 per cent), Shiva Granito Export(down 18.42 per cent), Elixir Capital (down 14.74 per cent), SJVN(down 13.05 per cent) and Alacrity Sec(down 12.76 per cent) stood among the top losers in today's trade. In the Nifty pack, 15 stocks closed in the green, while 35 stocks ended in the red. The index closed 159.05 points down at 19742.35. On the BSE, Adcon Capital Servic(PP), Innovatus Entertain, FutureLifestyleFash, Padmanabh Alloys and Toyam Industries hit their fresh 52-week lows, while Jindal Photo, Jindal Capital, MPL Plastics, Tuticorin Alkali and KSB touched their fresh 52-week highs in today's trade.

Tax incentives from central as well as state governments and flexible payment plans from builders will motivate prospective homebuyers to buy residential properties, according to a survey by Housing.com and Naredco. Proptech firm Housing.com and realtors' body Naredco on Thursday released their latest survey report titled "Residential Realty Consumer Sentiment Outlook H2 2023 — Trends and Insights".

US Federal Reserve also weighed on crude prices. Around 3 pm the November contract of Brent on the Intercontinental Exchange was trading at $92.60 a barrel, down 0.99% from its previous close. The November contract of West Texas Intermediate (WTI) fell to $88.79 a barrel, down 0.97% from its previous close.

Nifty 50 and Sensex end in the negative territory for the third consecutive session. Weak global cues continued weighing on domestic market sentiment. Major European markets, including France's CAC, Germany's DAX and the UK's FTSE fell up to a per cent ahead of the Bank of England interest rate decision.
