IPO MET NASDAQ SoftBank Short sellers must wait to take a stab at SoftBank's Arm Holdings soaring shares
Arm Holdings may have to wait at least a day before the stock becomes available for shorting, analysts said. Shares in SoftBank's Arm Holdings opened 18% above their offer price in their Nasdaq debut on Thursday, valuing the British chip designer at nearly $60 billion in its return to the public markets after seven years. Short sellers who aim to sell borrowed shares to buy them back at a profit, however, may have to bide their time since the newly-minted shares might not be available to borrow for shorting just yet. Investors can begin selling the shares short as soon as their broker has reasonable grounds to believe that the security can be borrowed — in market parlance, be able to «locate» the shares, said Ihor Dusaniwsky, managing director of predictive analytics at S3 Partners. Prime brokers or brokers usually will at least wait until a day after the IPO to give a 'locate' on the shares, to get an idea on how much stock lands in lendable or marginable accounts, Dusaniwsky said. Investors looking to trade in ARM options, another avenue to place bets on the future price of the shares, may have to wait till next week as certain regulatory requirements on trading thresholds have to be met before options exchanges can list contracts on the newly-listed shares. «I have every reason to believe that when ARM options are listed they will be very popular,» said Steve Sosnick, chief strategist at Interactive Brokers. Arm shares were last up 15.80% at $59.06.

Two days after meeting Putin at a spaceport, amid speculation they would agree an arms deal, Kim's bullet-proof train arrived in Komsomolsk-on-Amur, Russian news agencies reported. Kim is in the city, an important Russian industrial centre, to visit an aviation firm producing military and civil equipment. MET Waters Southern country September rains in agricultural regions a good omen for cooling inflation
monsoon in September for key agricultural regions has raised hopes that food inflation may ease, with higher precipitation helping the two major kharif crops, rice and soya bean, that have seen an increase in the area sown. A sharply deficient August created moisture stress, raising concerns of a decline in output. The paddy sowing area increased 2.7% on-year to 40.3 million hectares as of September 8, according to government data, while soya bean acreage has risen 1.3% to 12.54 million hectares. «The rice-producing northern states of Punjab and Haryana have met their water requirement through irrigation. But the eastern states, which produce the bulk of the rice, have received good rainfall in September, helping in rice transplantation, which was a major worry for farmers,» said Amaresh Kumar Nayek, director of ICAR National Rice Research Institute. Slowing food inflation could give the central bank more room to ease its monetary policy for bolstering economic expansion, according to experts. Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh have reported higher paddy sowing. «If this momentum in rainfall continues for another few days, we do not see much difference in crop size compared with last year,» said Nayek. Similarly, September rains have helped the growth of soyabean pods, from which oil is extracted, said DN Pathak, executive director of the Soybean Processors Association.

Vedanta Resources financial policy regarding debt transactions may result in a potential downgrade of its current 'B-' rating to 'CCC' or 'CC,' as detailed in their credit FAQ addressing the implications of a liability management exercise for Vedanta Resources' credit rating. This rating action will happen if Vedanta tries a debt deal without enough compensation or buys back debt at a lower price than its face value in secondary markets.
