More savers ditch bank deposits to flirt with equity
savings account (CASA) deposits — can no longer be taken for granted with the average urban saver increasingly tilting in favour of higher-yielding Dalal Street instruments, such as mutual fund plans and direct stock ownership. And the already visible struggle for deposits could intensify further for the industry with the biggest index weighting — and overseas ownership — as democratisation of technology and familiarity help lift the veil on the hitherto opaque and esoteric world of D-Street for the average rural saver, fundamentally altering the dynamics in the handling of financial savings to the detriment of high-street banks.

DMRC unveils new OCC, entire network now to be controlled in integrated manner from HQ
DMRC on Wednesday unveiled its new integrated operation control centre (OCC), a major step towards creating necessary infrastructure for commencement of operations on Phase-IV corridors of the Delhi Metro, officials said. With this new OCC, the entire DMRC network will now be controlled in an «integrated manner» from the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation's headquarters — Metro Bhawan, they said. This new OCC, commissioned on the third floor of Metro Bhawan, provides remote visibility, manoeuverability of the entire Metro system (rolling stock, stations, signal, tracks, etc.) with concourse and platform level monitoring, thus passengers and system both are always under monitoring from the OCC, the DMRC said in a statement. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is presently carrying out construction work on a 65.2-km stretch of three priority corridors spanning 45 stations as part of this project.

Airlines told to speed up baggage delivery
civil aviation security regulator has asked airlines to deploy adequate manpower within 10 days to ensure passengers don't have to wait more than half an hour to collect their luggage. The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) wrote to airlines on Friday, directing them that the first bag should arrive at the carousel within 10 minutes of the aircraft shutting down the engine and the last bag no later than 30 minutes. In January, BCAS monitored baggage arrival time of all airlines at six metro airports — Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Chennai — on a weekly basis and found they did not adhere to the standards set in the Operation, Management and Delivery Agreement. Contractual agreement was signed by Airports Authority of India with Delhi and Mumbai airports during their privatisation in 2006. It defines standards of service that the airports have to provide to passengers. «The above monitoring is currently being done at six major airports, However, BCAS has directed the airlines to ensure that the mandated levels are achieved in all airports where they fly,» the regulator said in a statement.
