NEW DELHI : By several accounts, Indians were set to splurge this festive season. And they did–shopping online and on cars and two-wheelers, but for many traditional retailers and consumer goods makers, the season was merely satisfactory. As the lights dimmed on the mega sales period that began in October and stretched on until Diwali in mid-November, a pattern’s emerging on how Indians shopped–making for an interesting narrative on the country’s growth and consumption patterns.

The family members claimed that there were several bruises on his body suggesting torture before being killed.

PM Kisan Scheme beneficiaries must complete e-KYC and link their bank account to Aadhaar to directly receive benefits in their bank accounts. It was noticed in a question put to the government in the Lok Sabha that nearly 2.4 lakh farmers enrolled under the PM Kisan scheme are not getting the benefits of this scheme because they are unable to link their Aadhaar Card with Bank Accounts. Further, transferring the benefits in the Aadhaar seeded bank accounts of beneficiaries has inherent advantage in their favor as in case of change of bank accounts, beneficiaries are not required to travel back to the Department to update the same. In order to saturate the Aadhaar seeding of the bank accounts, the beneficiaries are contacted by the State/UT Governments for completing their Aadhaar seeding with their active bank accounts. The Central Government also sends one to one messages to such farmers for taking necessary actions so that benefits can be transferred to them without any hassle.

Apple's iPhone business in India will have no impact from the reported factory closure in Chennai due to the extreme weather situation in Chennai owing to cyclone Michaung, said industry executives close to the company. They said Apple ensures there are enough buffer stocks of iPhones in distribution to deal with such situations. «Apple does not work in a just-in-time inventory model, where a day of downtime impacts supplies. They ensure there is enough stock to tide over a week-long disruption,» said one of the executives, who did not wish to be identified. Production was yet to resume at Foxconn and Pegatron facilities in Sriperumbudur near Chennai on Tuesday, despite an improvement in weather, after being halted following heavy rains impacting day-to-day life in the coastal city and its outskirts. Taiwan-headquartered Foxconn and Pegatron are two of Apple's key local assemblers of iPhones and are part of the government's production-linked incentive scheme.

Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) on Tuesday said it has made geo-tagging of all kinds of properties mandatory to avail of a 10% property tax exemption. The civic agency said if any taxpayer fails to geo-tag their properties by January 31, they will not be able to avail of the 10% rebate on the lump sum advance payment of tax in the next financial year by June 30.

The Indian government has detected goods and services tax (GST)evasion of 1.51 trillion rupees ($17.99 billion) in 2023/24, and recovered tax worth 185.4 billion rupees up to October, according to data shared by the finance ministry on Tuesday.The highest tax evasion of 844 billion rupees was detected in the industrial state of Maharashtra, Minister of State for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary told lawmakers.

Central Bureau of Investigations (CBI) has conducted search operations in around 13 locations in West Bengal and Karnataka in its investigation related to the IMPS transactions worth Rs 820 cr in UCO Bank accounts. Kolkata-based UCO Bank had registered a complaint against two Support Engineers who worked with the bank alleging suspicious transactions through Immediate Payment Service (IMPS) amounting to around Rs 820 crore. Despite reporting the matter to law enforcement agencies, the state-owned bank did not clarify whether this technical glitch was due to human error or a hacking attempt. Apart from the accused, the CBI's search also included the premises of private persons and bank officials.
