IAMAI) has withdrawn its invitation for a “closed-door interaction” between the government and industry to some gaming firms such as Gameskraft and Spartan Poker citing “feedback from the minister’s office”, according to copies of emails seen by ET.
The IMAI, the apex industry body for various internet-first businesses, is organising the India Gaming Convention in Delhi on Tuesday and has arranged for a closed-door roundtable discussion with the minister of state for electronics and information technology Rajeev Chandrasekhar, on the sidelines of the main event. The private discussions are expected to be around “building certainty for online gaming”, according to people with knowledge of the matter.
Chandrasekhar is also expected to address the valedictory session of the event later on Tuesday.
ET has seen copies of two emails inviting companies for the private sessions to discuss industry concerns, after which a follow-up email was sent to select companies.
Other companies, including Dream11, Mobile Premier League (MPL), Games 24x7 and Zupee are expected to join the roundtable with the minister.
While the main event is being organised by the IAMAI, other gaming industry associations, Federation of Indian Fantasy Sports (FIFS) and E-Gaming Federation (EGF), are also sponsors of the event. The FIFS is backed by Dream11, whereas EGF counts Games 24x7 among its key members.
