UK's Pendragon rejects $486 mln buyout proposal from top shareholder
Pendragon said on Wednesday it had rejected an unsolicited buyout proposal from its largest shareholder Hedin Mobility Group and U.S.-based PAG International, which valued the car dealer at about 392 million pounds ($486 million). The offer for 28 pence per share from Hedin, which holds a 27.6% stake in Pendragon, and PAG comes a year after Hedin made a cash offer of 29 pence per share for the company. Hedin had, however, dropped its pursuit to takeover the British auto retailer, citing challenging market conditions and uncertain economic outlook. Shares of London-listed Pendragon jumped 12.6% to 26.55 pence by 1424 GMT. On Monday, the company said it would sell its UK motor and leasing businesses to Lithia for 250 million pounds ($310 million) and enter a strategic partnership for expansion of its dealer management software business to North America. The company said Wednesday's offer from Hedin and PAG undervalued the firm.

A passport to everywhere
high net worth individual (HNI ), a fluid way of life — the freedom to move unfettered worldwide — is the ultimate luxury. It’s the final step to becoming a successful global citizen. Kristin Surak, associate professor of Political Sociology at the London School of Economics, UK, and author of 'The Golden Passport: Global Mobility for Millionaires', says that India has one of the lowest ranks when it comes to visa-free access, so travel for Indian citizens can be incredibly challenging. “And it’s not just entering, even transiting through countries can be a challenge,” she says, recounting how a colleague had to pay an extra 1,000 pounds to fly from Delhi to London because he couldn’t transit through certain countries using only his Indian passport. “An extra thousand pounds multiplied by 100 times — that is the cost of a foreign citizenship.”

Jio AirFiber could be $4 billion-$9 billion in annual revenue opportunity for Reliance: Analysts
Jio AirFiber – could create a whopping $4 billion to $9 billion annual revenue opportunity if it sees wide acceptance of around 50-to-100 million homes, say analysts. They added that the current pricing of Jio AirFiber is not disruptive versus competition as rival Bharti Airtel’s comparable 100 Mbps 5G-FWA offering is at a 12% discount, albeit without digital channels and OTT apps. While Airtel’s FWA service is at a 33% premium to Jio AirFiber’s base plan of Rs 599 a month, it offers faster speeds of 100 Mbps compared to 30 Mbps on Jio’s. “Jio has ambitious plans with Jio AirFiber, with a target of 200 million homes…if there is wide acceptance of 5G FWA with bundled home entertainment services, it could be a significant revenue opportunity, especially as (home) broadband average revenue per user (ARPU) at Rs 600, is 3-4x higher vs mobile,” brokerage CLSA said in a note. A 5G-based FWA service uses airwaves instead of cables/fibre to provide fixed broadband access, using a next-gen mobile broadband technology.

Mint Explainer: Why Trai wants to cut the entry fees for various licences
₹15 crore, while a virtual network operator’s entry fee is ₹7.5 crore. While some telecom service providers have called for the entry fee to be abolished, the telecom regulator has suggested a 50% reduction, saying it could cause more companies to enter the market as service providers, enhancing competition. A reasonable entry fee would maintain a balance between deterring non-serious players and ensuring adequate competition.

‘We’ll soon introduce six local languages, QSR partnerships’
Edited excerpts: Why is Niantic entering India seven years after the launch of Pokémon Go? India has been a massive market for Android, and we are seeing fast adoption of new devices, with over 500 million active smartphone users. That is great for us, because for augmented reality, we need to have a graphics accelerator and advanced features in the phones. Today, you can find sub-$100 smartphones that have good enough features to match our needs, and within two years we may find similar features in sub-$50 phones, which will only expand the market.
