Valuations have moved up; markets may be volatile in the near term, says Shibani Sircar Kurian of Kotak Mahindra AMC
Shibani Sircar Kurian, senior EVP and the head of equity research at Kotak Mahindra Asset Management Company (AMC) pointed out that mid-cap and small-cap valuations are above their long-term averages. On a relative basis to large-caps, mid and small-cap valuations are at significantly higher levels as compared to long-term averages. In an interview with Mint, she talked about market fundamentals and macroeconomic scenarios. India’s outperformance, we believe, has been on the back of the trinity of (a) macro-economic stability, (b) strong corporate earnings, and (c) inflows (both domestic and FII).

2 top stock recommendations from Aditya Arora
«Almost five point of dollar index correction can happen in next one quarter or so, starting from 20th September,» says Aditya Arora, Adlytick. How are you looking at the Nifty, Bank Nifty right now? And also, what are your favourite trading ideas? I think internationally, there is risk of market environment. We saw almost 1%-2% correction on NASDAQ and Dow Jones as well. And meanwhile, dollar is also strengthening, which is signalling a little cautious outlook before the Fed meeting which is scheduled on 20th of September. And post-Fed, it would be a game changer because I am expecting a steep correction in dollar index. Almost five point of dollar index correction can happen in next one quarter or so, starting from 20th September.

Gautam Duggad on 4 sectors which have good long growth prospects
«You add another 5-6% because there are a lot of large companies which are not part of the Nifty, which are recent listing of last two-three years. So, I would still say 65% of the total market cap is still either in line or slightly below long period average,» says Gautam Duggad, Motilal Oswal. How much of this market cap is right now trading below the average and how much of the market cap is above the average? So, if you look at it this way, I mean, for a simplicity purpose, just use Nifty 50 as a benchmark for your large cap. And I said Nifty is in line with its long period average, maybe 4% or 5% lower than long period average and Nifty is roughly 60% of India's market cap. You add another 5-6% because there are a lot of large companies which are not part of the Nifty, which are recent listing of last two-three years. So, I would still say 65% of the total market cap is still either in line or slightly below long period average.
