Go, Canada! The 2024 Olympics uniforms celebrate each province, territory
Lululemon has unveiled its Team Canada designs for the 2024 Olympics in Paris, giving Canadians a glimpse of what the country’s Olympians and Paralympians will be wearing at the opening and closing ceremonies.Lululemon and the Canadian Olympic team unveiled the official uniforms Tuesday.Team Canada will enter the stadium for the official kickoff to the Olympics in red bomber jackets and red shorts and pants, worn over red short-sleeved shirts and paired with Lululemon sneakers.Look closely and you’ll notice the print on the tracksuits gives a fun nod to Canada’s history and biodiversity — the one-of-a-kind print celebrates the diversity of Canada and interprets the art, architecture and nature found throughout the country, including provincial flowers. The brand also shared a number of other designs, which will be worn by the athletes during medal ceremonies and the closing ceremony of the Games.Lululemon said its designs are “designed to support more bodies and more abilities,” and feature unique features like magnetic-close zippers, pull-on loops, sensory touch guides and braille love notes.Seated athletes will find more comfort in two key adaptive designs, the Seated-Fit Carpenter Pant and the Seated-Fit Poncho, which allow better functionality when sitting. The kit is also designed to wick sweat and features breathable mesh and convertible styles, to keep athletes comfortable in Paris’ changing weather. If we’re being honest, this year’s kit looks somewhat subdued compared to team uniforms of days gone by.Who can forget the time Team Canada showed up in bucket hats to the 2000 Games in Sydney, Australia?Or how about the time they sported these wild shirts, over-size earrings and straw hats at the 1992 Olympic games in

BJP poll manifesto has nothing for poor, says Rahul Gandhi
Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday said the BJP poll manifesto does not have anything for the poor but talks about bidding for the 2036 Olympics. The BJP was keen on pushing its agenda of «One nation, one election,» he said accusing the ruling dispensation at the Centre, during his brief visit to Nilgiris district. «What are the BJP's policies for the poor?» Gandhi asked during his interaction with college students at Thaloor here before proceeding to Wayanad in Kerala. The Congress manifesto has policies for all sections of the people including the youth and women. «But the BJP election manifesto talks about holding Olympics in 2036. This is the difference between the Congress and the BJP,» he said.

Pain and Glory: Hidden battles that athletes fight to become winners
Yuvraj Singh, for many, remains the benchmark. Despite battling an early onset of cancer, he helped India win the 2011 World Cup on home soil. While it wasn’t known at the time, his achievement in earning the Player of the Tournament award seems even more significant considering his health struggles. Often, health issues are beyond anybody’s control. Abhinav Bindra, for instance, battled epilepsy during the shooting final at 2016 Rio Olympics.

IOC sets deadline of 'early 2025' to keep boxing in the Olympics for Los Angeles with a new partner
International Olympic Committee on Wednesday said it needs to find a suitable new international boxing body by early next year or else risk boxing dropping out of the Olympics for the Los Angeles Games in 2028. The IOC stripped the International Boxing Association of the right to run the Olympic boxing tournaments in Tokyo in 2021 and Paris this year. On Tuesday, the Court of Arbitration for Sport upheld the IOC's decision to formally de-recognize the IBA, in effect cutting it out of the Olympic movement altogether.

India could have more billionaires, Olympic gold, scientists if kids don't waste time on UPSC: PM economic advisor Sanjeev Sanyal
Sanjeev Sanyal, an economist and advisor to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has ignited a debate by suggesting that preparing for the UPSC exam might be an inefficient use of time unless someone is genuinely interested in administrative roles. Instead, he argues that India needs more entrepreneurs aiming to become billionaires like Elon Musk or Mukesh Ambani. He suggests that the energy spent on preparing for the UPSC could be better utilized in fields such as sports, entertainment, medicine, entrepreneurship, or science. Sanjeev Sanyal, a member of the Economic Advisory Council to the Prime Minister (EAC-PM), expressed his views during "The Neon Show" podcast hosted by Siddhartha Ahluwalia. He advocates for a shift in mindset among young people. He argues that too many young individuals are investing their prime years preparing for the UPSC exam, which he believes yields limited benefits given the small number of positions available. “I'm not saying you don't want people to take the exam. Yes, every country needs a bureaucracy, that's perfectly fine. But I think lakhs of people are spending their best years trying to crack an exam where a tiny number of a few 1000 people actually are going to get it makes no sense,” he said.

After Australia, now Malaysia declines to host 2026 Commonwealth Games
Malaysia has declined the opportunity to host the 2026 Commonwealth Games due to financial concerns, as confirmed by the Ministry of Youth and Sports. This decision comes after the withdrawal of Victoria, Australia, last year. The Ministry stated, 'The government has decided not to accept the offer from the Commonwealth Games Federation.' The 2026 event will not be held in Malaysia, citing cost reasons. Earlier yesterday, Malaysia's sports minister Hannah Yeoh had expressed hesitation regarding the country's potential hosting of the 2026 Commonwealth Games, highlighting financial considerations. The uncertainty arose after the original host, the Australian state of Victoria, withdrew last year, citing escalating costs. This withdrawal cast doubt on the fate of the quadrennial event, which primarily involves former British colonies, prompting discussions on its benefits and relevance.
