Global shipping insurance may shift if sanctions end, Bimco says
global shipping industry should be open to working with a new group of insurers that emerged to support Russia’s so-called shadow fleet, provided they follow best practice, according to a leading maritime group. The new insurers and P&I clubs — groups that pool risks — should be assessed based on their adherence to international safety and technical standards, Nikolaus Schues, president of shipping association Bimco, said in an interview. They may become legitimate should the Trump administration roll back sanctions on Russia, he said, with the US bidding to end the war in Ukraine. “Some of the new insurers may become part of the IG,” Schues said on Tuesday, referring to the International Group of P&I Clubs, an association whose members provide cover for most ocean-going tonnage against risks including spills and collisions. “Hopefully, after the Russian sanctions end, the bad part of the parallel fleet will go away.”

Ministry of Labour & Employment launches India's social protection data drive
This increase acknowledges existing central social protection schemes that had not been considered earlier. India has made significant strides in enhancing its social protection coverage through a comprehensive data-pooling exercise led by the Ministry in collaboration with ILO. By utilising encrypted Aadhaar as a unique identifier across 34 major central schemes, such as MGNREGA, EPFO, ESIC, APY, and PM-POSHAN, over 200 crore records were processed to identify unique beneficiaries. According to the release, this exercise revealed that 65% of India's population (92 crore people) is covered by at least one social protection benefit (cash and in-kind both), with 48.8% receiving cash benefits.

GCCs in India expect 9.8 pc salary growth in next 12 months: Report
salary growth over the next 12 months, as organisations adapt to evolving talent demands and navigate macroeconomic challenges, a report said on Wednesday. In India, GCCs are seen as the top payers, outpacing traditional IT services in pay parity and growth, and are expected to give 9.8 per cent salary growth over the next 12 months, 'India's Talent Takeoff — The GCC 4.0 Story' report by digital talent solutions provider NLB Services said. «With India hosting over 55 per cent of the world's GCCs and projected to reach a market size of USD 110 billion by 2030, these centres have become critical nodes for organisations seeking agility, cost efficiency, and access to a vast talent pool. This growth trajectory is now translating into significant salary increases for employees, especially for specialised skills which are commanding higher premiums than ever before,» NLB Services CEO Sachin Alug said. However, he said, despite this strong momentum, gender-based disparities still require attention, with women earning approximately 75-85 per cent of male salaries on average, a gap which further widens at senior positions, reflecting the limited representation in leadership roles.

Uttar Pradesh goes past Delhi with over 15k companies registered in FY25 so far
As many as 15,590 new companies were registered in UP between April 2024 and January 2025, compared with 12,759 in Delhi, data from the corporate affairs ministry showed. Maharashtra added about 21,000 new companies in this period. Company incorporations indicate investor confidence in the medium-to-long term growth prospects of a state, among other reasons. Strong economic growth in recent years, a vast and expanding consumer base, greater focus on ease of doing business and a large pool of affordable workers, on top of improved law and order situation, have drawn investors to UP, experts and a state government official said. The national capital’s proximity to Noida, a key industrial centre in UP, also helps draw investors there, the official said, given that real estate costs are lower there than in Delhi.

RBI urges lenders to create common pool for green projects
green projects to boost flow of climate-related financing. The central bank has also proposed to set up a dedicated “on tap” cohort on climate change risks and sustainable finance under its Regulatory Sandbox initiative. Governor Sanjay Malhotra on Thursday said that the lack of bankable green projects slowed the adequate flow of credit and a collaborative approach could address this constraint. «Capacity and expertise constraints limit the ability to appraise and thus finance climate change mitigation. It also enhances the risk of funding such projects. Thus, creation of a common pool of such bankable projects will have multi-fold benefits for the entire ecosystem,» Malhotra said at a seminar on climate change risks and finance organised by the central bank in New Delhi. He stressed upon capacity building and improving technical know-how to better appraise risks in financing projects which use green technologies.

After white-ball supremacy, Gautam Gambhir has 'A' plan to bring back India's Test cricket glory, starting 5 months ahead of England tour
Gautam Gambhir is set to accompany the India 'A' team on their tour of England ahead of the senior team's five-Test series starting June 20, TOI's Arani Basu has reported. This comes in the backdrop of Gambhir's aim to closely assess the reserve player pool during a period devoid of international fixtures for the Indian team. With the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) currently lacking a designated coach for developmental teams, it remains to be seen whether Gambhir will serve solely as an observer or if VVS Laxman, the BCCI's Head Cricket, will take on a more hands-on role. This marks a significant shift as it will be the first instance of a senior team coach traveling with the India 'A' squad. Sources revealed that Gambhir has been actively developing a roadmap that spans across formats, focusing on preparation for the 2027 ODI World Cup, as well as the World Test Championship and the 2026 T20 World Cup. «Gambhir has been in discussions with the BCCI since he returned from Australia. He has expressed his desire to travel with the India 'A' team to get a clearer view of the reserve pool,» a BCCI source told TOI.

Canada to send invitations to apply for Parents and Grandparents PR pathway in 2025
IRCC) had announced that they would be sending no new invitations under the Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) this year, and would instead only be processing applications submitted in the 2024 intake. This year Canada intends to accept up to 10,000 complete applications for sponsorship under the PGP Program. «Given there remains a number of interest to sponsor forms in the pool from 2020, IRCC plans to send invitations to apply to randomly selected potential sponsors from that pool instead of accepting new forms. This is the same approach taken for the intakes conducted from 2020 to 2024,» said IRCC in a statement. ALSO READ: Canada pauses permanent residency sponsorship applications for parents, grandparents
