Fighting Election President Actor students singer Bihari versus Bihari: A big Bihar battle is brewing in Delhi
Delhi is witnessing a battle between two prominent Biharis. The contest in the Northeast Delhi constituency is the most watched in Delhi for its two main contenders. The Congress has fielded former president of JNU Students' Union, Kanhaiya Kumar, who became known for the controversy over raising of anti-national slogans on the JNU campus in 2016. He is challenging a formidable incumbent, BJP's Manoj Tiwari, a famous Bhojpuri singer and actor who is known for his hugely popular song 'Rinkiya ke papa'. Tiwari won from the Northeast Delhi constituency in 2014 as well as 2019. His vote share in 2014 was 45% which grew in 2019 to 54%. Kumar and Tiwari are locking horns in a constituency with a sizable population from Poorvanchal. No laughing matter for 'Rinkiya ke papa'? Tiwari's political weight can be gauged from the fact that he is the only sitting MP who has been retained in Delhi. The BJP has replaced candidates in all other six constituencies in Delhi. His vote share grew in 2019 when he defeated former Delhi chief minister Sheila Dixit with a margin of more than 3.5 lakh votes.

markets COST Cooper economy Sustainability Trade President Biden's industrial policy made America’s EV tariffs necessary
In one sense, US President Joe Biden’s punitive new tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles (EVs) are indeed necessary, just as he argues. What makes them so are the enormous sums that the administration is devoting to expanding US capacity to produce its own EVs. An almost-invariable characteristic of industrial policy is to start with one dumb idea, after which many more then follow—by necessity.

Maldives on Wednesday said both India and China have agreed to cooperate in efforts to pay for imports in their respective countries' currency instead of the US dollar, which is likely to help Male save almost 50 per cent of the annual USD 1.5 million imports bill from the two countries. Maldives' Economic Development Minister Mohamed Saeed said he met with the Indian High Commissioner Munu Mahawar two weeks ago, who in turn, said that New Delhi would support and cooperate in arranging for the settlement of import payments in Indian Rupee. Provident President country Department recommendations Updates Commentary South Africa launches 'nomad visa' for remote workers
South Africa’s Department of Home Affairs has refiled significant changes to its work-permit regime, allowing the creation of a "nomad visa" for remote workers. The changes, gazetted on May 20, became law after a previous withdrawal due to procedural lapses in public commentary periods. The new visa aims to attract remote workers employed and paid by foreign companies, provided they earn at least 1 million rand (approximately $55,404) annually. This visa also includes a short-term tax exemption. This move, recommended by the office of the president, addresses criticism from major foreign-owned employers struggling to get technicians and executives into the country due to South Africa's complex permit system. The system's delays, exacerbated by a lack of local skilled workers, have left companies in a bind, with some applicants waiting over a year for a work permit.

Railroad operators like to say that trains are greener than trucks when it comes to moving goods, pointing out that one railcar can haul three to four times as much as a truck, and one freight train can remove hundreds of trucks from the highways. Although the freight-rail industry is responsible for less than 2% of transportation-related greenhouse-gas emissions in the U.S., rail carriers—like the rest of the transportation industry—are under pressure to reduce those emissions, much of which are produced by diesel-electric locomotives.
