Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Saturday said positive discussions were held in Delhi on the Mahayuti alliance for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections and «80 per cent» of the issues have been resolved. Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday held talks for seat sharing in Maharashtra with coalition partners Shiv Sena chief Eknath Shinde and NCP president Ajit Pawar. Fadnavis was also present in the meeting. The Mahayuti alliance comprises the BJP, Shiv Sena and NCP. Speaking to reporters in Nagpur, Fadnavis said, «Very positive discussions were held in the meeting yesterday. I can say that 80 per cent of our issues have been solved, and talks are going on for the remaining 20 per cent. And, I believe that the remaining issues will be resolved, and a good alliance will be formed.»

Narendra Modi on Saturday unveiled a 125-foot bronze statue of 'Ahom general' Lachit Borphukan in Assam's Jorhat. Jean Carroll's $83.3 million verdict in her recent defamation case, which arose from his branding her a liar after she accused him of raping her decades ago. Congress has released its first list of 39 Lok Sabha candidates, which included Rahul Gandhi from his sitting Wayanad constituency in Kerala, AICC general secretary (organisation) KC Venugopal from Alappuzha and former CM Bhupesh Baghel from Rajnandangaon in Chhattisgarh. The formal decision on Gandhi contesting from Amethi will be taken when the central election committee takes up the party's probable list for Uttar Pradesh later. Rahul seeking re-election from the safe seat Wayanad shows his disinclination to fight from the old Amethi seat without taking an electoral insurance from the Kerala seat, where Gandhi-led Congress' main rival BJP is just a marginal player. The first list has 24 candidates from the OBC-SC-ST minority segments, 15 from the general category. While 12 are below the 50 age bracket, eight are from the 50-60 age group. It includes many sitting MPs.

Tamil Nadu's ruling DMK on Friday finalised seat-sharing agreements with allies VCK and MDMK, repeating its 2019 deal. However, the party, which is a part of the Opposition INDIA bloc, is yet to clinch a pact with Congress. MDMK was allocated one seat that will be announced later, said party founder Vaiko. DMK had allotted a Lok Sabha seat and one Rajya Sabha seat to MDMK during the 2019 elections. VCK will contest from two reserved constituencies — Chidambaram and Villupuram — the two seats it represents in the outgoing Lok Sabha. Party founder Thol Thirumavalavan currently represents Chidambaram in the Lok Sabha. The party will also field its nominees from around 15 seats in Karnataka, Kerala and Telangana, said Thirumavalavan.
