India's net non-performing assets ratio of banks declined to a multi-year low of 0.8% at the end of September 2023. Interim Budget: India's fiscal deficit might surpass the government's 5.9% target for FY24 due to escalated revenue expenses and a lower-than-expected nominal GDP, according to India Ratings and Research. The agency predicts that despite increased tax and non-tax revenue, an anticipated second supplementary demand for grants could escalate the deficit to 6% of GDP, slightly exceeding the budgeted limit. “Higher-than-budgeted revenue expenditure triggered through the first and likely second supplementary demand for grants in combination with lower-than-budgeted nominal GDP will push the fiscal deficit to 6.0% of GDP, 10bp higher than budgeted 5.9%,” said Ind-Ra researchers. While announcing the federal budget for this fiscal year, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said India aims to narrow the fiscal gap to 5.9% of gross domestic product from 6.4% in the last financial year. NEW DELHI : Exports of all farm commodities may come under the government lens soon, a move that aims to cool domestic prices but may spark global food security concerns. The government plans to bring all agricultural commodities under its export review and minimum export price (MEP) policy, a senior official said on the condition of anonymity. Currently, an inter-ministerial committee (IMC), chaired by the department of commerce (DoC), is responsible for the seasonal review of onion exports.

The relaxation was to help speed up awarding of tenders floated by public sector undertakings such as Engineers India Ltd (EIL), Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), Oil India Ltd (OIL) and Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL). «More evidence is required to say that steel items could not be domestically manufactured. There will be no general exception under DMI&SP to the companies,» a senior government official told ET. Under the DMI&SP policy, the Centre gives preference to domestically manufactured iron and steel products in procurement tenders floated by public sector undertakings.
