Bengaluru: US-based Prologis Inc., the world’s largest owner of warehouses, plans to invest around $500 million in India by 2026 to build a large portfolio of warehousing parks in the country. The company could double its investment in India in the 5-7 years following the initial $500 million outlay, chief investment officer Joseph Ghazal said in an interview.

Prologis, RMZ Group in JV to build warehousing park in Bengaluru
Prologis, the world's largest warehouse owner, formed a joint venture with RMZ, one of India’s top family-owned alternative asset owners, to build a warehousing and logistics park in Bengaluru. The facility at Hoskote, a key logistics hub in Bengaluru, will span 30 acres, and it will initially deliver 500,000 sq ft, targeting third-party logistics and industrial clients. Once completed in the next fiscal year, the facility will mark RMZ’s entry into the industrial and logistics (I&L) sector, complementing its diversified portfolio of premium office spaces under the RMZ NXT brand.

Industrial real-estate companies have been showing more interest lately in the roofs of their structures, where warehouse operators are looking to cut energy costs, reduce emissions and even make money from the sprawling and mostly unused space by installing solar panels. Matt Schlindwein is taking his time adopting the technology, however. The managing partner of East Brunswick, N.J.-based industrial real-estate firm Greek Real Estate Partners said a fraction of the more than 300 warehouses he manages in the Northeast have solar panels on their roofs.
