India’s growth potential can easily accommodate existing, new players in MF industry: JM Financial MF
Even though the mutual fund industry in India has been competitive, the growth has remained largely steady, thanks to the strong inflows, particularly in the last three years. With newer players such as Zerodha, Groww making their entry into the $560 billion mutual fund industry, and Jio Financial Services looking to soon enter, the competition is likely to get hot. However,Seemant Shukla ofJM Financial Mutual Fund believes that India is quite an underpenetrated market globally, leaving enough opportunities for both existing as well as new players. “The anticipated growth in India can easily accommodate both existing and new players with varying strategies, be it passive or active investments,” Shukla, who is the chief business officer at the asset management company, told ETMarkets in an interview. Shukla believes that digitalisation and digital channels can contribute in a big way to expand the reach. “Considering that the US has multiple asset management companies for a population of 35 crore, it’s clear that we have a long journey ahead of us,” he said. Edited excerpts:Institutional interest in IPO issues has increased significantly in recent times. What’s driving this frenzy? After experiencing significant growth in 2017-18, the IPO market reached its peak in 2021-22, and since then, continued to maintain strong traction.

6 things that changed for market over weekend: Gift Nifty, Parliament session to global market cues for Sensex today
Indian stock market indices, Sensex and Nifty are likely to open lower on Monday following weak global cues. Asian markets traded lower, while the US stock markets ended in the red last week. Foreign capital outflows, elevated crude oil prices and inflation concerns may cast shadow over the market, while strong domestic macroeconomic data with lower CPI and wholesale inflation are likely to provide comfort.

From HSBC to Citi, global banks expand maternity benefits to retain women in India
HSBC pays for bankers’ nannies in India for up to six years. Morgan Stanley allows pregnant staff to expense cab rides, and Citigroup Inc. lets new moms work from home for a year after their maternity leave runs out. Across India, global financial firms are expanding maternity benefits to include perks rarely seen elsewhere, part of an effort to attract and retain female employees. Overall, less than a quarter of adult women in India work, among the lowest rates in the world. “We will never become a developed country without women’s participation,” said Aditya Mittal, chief human resources officer of Citi India & South Asia. The bank last week announced that new moms will now have the option to work from home for up to a year after their paid leave ends.

The planet can’t afford another China: NITI Aayog’s Suman Bery

Bery said in an interview. Bery proposed that emerging economic realities, including the potential of services exports, India’s prospects of becoming an agriculture superpower, and the dwindling potential of the manufacturing sector to create jobs due to increased productivity, warrant a review of the traditional notions on which development models are built.
