While climbing to the intraday peak, the yellow metal price came close to the lifetime high of ₹64,065 levels. MCX gold rate today is around ₹1,300 away from the record high.

NEW DELHI : The Centre is considering a proposal to provide interest-free loans to 15,000 tobacco farmers in Andhra Pradesh, impacted by cyclone Michaung, two officials aware of the matter said. The tenure of interest-free loans, varying between ₹10,000 and ₹20,000, will be six months and will support replanting of tobacco, the officials said. The commerce ministry is considering the proposal forwarded by the Tobacco Board and it is expected to be finalized soon, they added.

Members indicated that they expect three quarter-percentage point cuts by the end of 2024. However, the meeting summary noted a high level of uncertainty over how, or if, that will happen. «In discussing the policy outlook, participants viewed the policy rate as likely at or near its peak for this tightening cycle, though they noted that the actual policy path will depend on how the economy evolves,» the minutes stated. Officials noted the progress that has been made in the battle to bring down inflation.

Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) on Wednesday said it has extended the last date for employers to upload wage details for higher pension by five months. The extension of time for the employers to upload the wage details online is till May 31, 2024, said the Ministry of Labour and Employment in a statement. Earlier, the deadline to upload wage details for higher contributions was December 31, 2023.
