Jio BlackRock changes tack, reaches out to mutual fund distributors
fintechs to market its mutual fund products. The company's move comes after a muted debut of its first equity scheme, the Jio BlackRock Flexicap Fund.Launched in October 2025, the Jio BlackRock Flexicap Fund's assets under management (AUM) stood at ₹2,613 crore at the end of January, compared with ₹2,808 crore of the Abakkus Flexicap Fund, launched in December 2025."For a name like Jio BlackRock, it should have seen a higher uptick in its flexicap fund. Trying to go purely direct in India, especially for a new AMC, might be difficult," said Srikanth Meenakshi, co-founder of mutual fund research platform Primeinevstor. In a 6 Septemberinterview with Mint, its chief executive, Sid Swaminathan, said people were becoming increasingly comfortable managing their finances digitally on their phones, and its partnership with Jio, which has access to that ecosystem, gave it a clear understanding that this is the direction it wants to pursue.

Pete Hegseth to travel to Panama for meetings following Trump's demands for canal
Sean Parnell, chief Pentagon spokesman, said Friday that Hegseth will participate in the 2025 Central American Security Conference. He said Hegseth will take part in meetings that «will drive ongoing efforts to strengthen our partnerships with Panama and other Central American nations toward our shared vision for a peaceful and secure Western Hemisphere.» He did not mention the canal, which was built by the US in the early 1900s as it looked for ways to facilitate the transit of commercial and military vessels between its coasts. Washington turned control over to Panama on Dec. 31, 1999, under a treaty signed in 1977 by President Jimmy Carter. Trump has claimed that Carter «foolishly» gave the canal away. After Trump's threats, a Hong Kong-based conglomerate has agreed to sell its controlling stake in a subsidiary that operates ports near the Panama Canal to a consortium including BlackRock Inc., effectively putting the ports under American control. The deal will give the U.S. investment management company BlackRock Inc. control over 43 ports in 23 countries, including the ports of Balboa and Cristobal, located at either end of the Panama Canal. Other ports are in Mexico, the Netherlands, Egypt, Australia, Pakistan and elsewhere.

Fidelity, Schwab block orders of BlackRock, Texas Cap ETFs
Fidelity Investments and Charles Schwab are prohibiting clients from investing in money-market ETFs on their trading platforms, an unusual move for the financial powerhouses who typically permit easy access to funds that already trade on an exchange. The two firms are blocking purchases of three exchange-traded funds offered by BlackRock and Texas Capital, the first to track money-market securities such as Treasury bills and other government-backed debt in an ETF structure. The new funds serve as a direct challenge to mutual-fund providers, who have long been big, established players in money-market products. Fidelity and Schwab alone manage trillions of dollars in money-market assets, and this month, Schwab filed plans to launch its own government money-market ETF.

Rahul Jacob: Global alliances have changed and so have German policies

German chancellor-to-be Friedrich Merz, long a fiscal hawk as the leader of Germany’s centre-right Christian Democratic Union (CDU), recently made an about-turn on the virtues of higher deficit spending after being briefed on the country’s dwindling growth prospects and witnessing geopolitical gyrations in the US, which seems keen to patch up with Russia, potentially leaving its European allies in the lurch.

BlackRock believes in India’s structural bull story; the selloff has fed on itself: Ben Powell
Ben Powell, Chief Middle East and APAC Investment Strategist, BlackRock Investment Institute, says we at BlackRock are still very much on board with the India bull story, while being respectful of the short-term sell-off which clearly has fed on itself. India is on a journey to exist as a standalone investment destination and that is going to become more and more the case in the quarters and years ahead. We have discussed the US. We have discussed China. Where is India? Did I miss it? Ben Powell: India is doing very well. I am here in the UAE. We had a huge cricket event over the weekend. India was triumphant. India, I still think is in this temporarily tricky spot of risk slightly feeding on itself. You have had a market which perhaps got a little bit ahead of itself several months ago and that was ripe, it turns out, for a little bit of a downdraft and that is now feeding on itself to some degree.

How a 96-year-old billionaire from Hong Kong escaped Trump’s glare with $19 billion port deal
Hong Kong billionaire Li Ka-shing may have just pulled off one of his boldest transactions yet. Under pressure from the Trump administration over two ports at the Panama canal controlled by CK Hutchison Holdings Ltd., Li’s company announced a plan to sell off the bulk of its global ports business to a consortium led by BlackRock Inc. In return, the Hong Kong firm will receive cash proceeds of more than $19 billion. Investors, and even some of CK Hutchison’s closest advisers, were surprised that what began with two Panamanian ports has now evolved into a much larger deal. Under the agreement, the company will sell 43 ports in 23 countries, while keeping facilities in mainland China and Hong Kong.
