Zomato gets ₹ 401 crore show-cause notice over delivery charges
₹ 401.7 crore show-cause notice from the Directorate General of GST Intelligence for delivery charges collected over two and a half years. The notice, dated 26 December, asks why Zomato shouldn't be liable for this tax amount, including interest and penalties, for the period from 29 October 2019 to 31 March 2022. Zomato, in a notification to stock exchanges on Thursday, refuted the claims, arguing that it was “not liable" to pay any tax on the delivery charges, as these are collected on behalf of delivery partners.

‘Respect Kannada, but no violence’: Former Infosys CFO Mohandas Pai condemns vandalism over English signboards in Karnataka, lauds govt for arresting miscreants
Infosys recently castigated the violence that erupted in Bengaluru on Wednesday, when some Kannada language fanatics vandalised signboards and billboards. Taking to X, the entrepreneur pointed out that although the promotion of local language and culture is undoubtedly important, it cannot come at the cost of law and order and the well-being of the citizens. “Yes local language is important but why are you quiet about such violence? You were our CP before and used to protect us! The issue is the violence and lack of police protection, not language. We must respect Kannada but no violence” he tweeted. Many netizens flooded his comment section agreeing with his stance. An X user wrote, “Vandalism, Violence, Destruction of property and Intimidation is not acceptable and zero tolerance. Police were made mute spectators by a clueless and helpless State Home Minister. This is totally sponsored to divert attention of serious issues and everyone has fallen for it..” Pai also applauded the Karnataka state government when Narayan Gowda, the leader of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike (KRV), the organisation that masterminded the attack, and fellow vandals were arrested and taken into custody. Retweeting the news of their arrest, Pai praised the state government for their dedication to maintaining law and order. “Thanks to our Home Minister @DrParameshwara and Minister for Bengaluru @DKShivakumar for standing up for Bengaluru and Rule of law. Violence by anybody is unacceptable in any civilized society. Govt should enforce the law, make the violators compensate the victims of violence,” he wrote.
