Congress did not implement Mandal commission report, says BSP chief Mayawati in Telangana
BSP chief Mayawati on Thursday took a veiled dig at Rahul Gandhi, saying a senior leader of the Congress party is vociferously seeking a caste-based census now but the Congress governments in the past did not accept the demand of OBCs to provide reservation to them on the lines of SCs and STs. She also criticised the NDA government at the Centre for not giving separate quota to SC, ST and OBCs in the Women's Reservation bill which was recently passed in Parliament. Addressing an election rally at Peddapalli in Telangana, Mayawati recalled that those from most backward class had sought reservation benefits like SCs and STs, from the Congress, which was in power for a long period after India gained independence. «With a view to getting votes of SC, ST, OBCs, a senior leader of Congress is now campaigning in his election meetings that caste census should be conducted,» she said.

The big one: How a major catastrophe could wipe out Canada's $232-billion insurance industry
In the middle of the afternoon on March 11, 2011, a major earthquake struck off the northeastern coast of Honshu, Japan’s main island, triggering a tsunami that sent a 40-metre-high wall of water cascading towards the coast. The inland surge from the tsunami washed away thousands of homes, devastating roads and knocking out power across much of the country. At the island’s Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant, backup generating capacity was wiped away, too, and within days the plant fell into meltdown and began spewing toxic radioactive material into the environment, forcing the evacuation of thousands. The multi-pronged disaster, previously thought impossible, left more than 15,000 people dead and caused more than US$200 billion in damage, making it one of the most devastating in modern times.
