Amid cautious hiring, internship becomes mandatory and extended
companies are increasingly insisting that freshers undergo mandatory internships with them for an extended period before they make the final offers, delaying the hiring process that has just started seeing some activity after a washout year. Placement officers in several tier-1 and -2 engineering colleges that ET spoke to said internships, which used to be six months, have now been extended by another four-six months. “Employers are increasingly seeking fresh graduates with internship experience in AI/ML, data roles, model development and analytics,” said Munira Loliwala, vice president, strategy and growth, at staffing services firm TeamLease Digital. “The shortage of skilled entry-level talent has led companies to offer extended internships, enhancing the likelihood of hiring through management trainee programs later.”

Jammu and Kashmir elections: CM to have no power, I won't contest, says Mehbooba Mufti
PDP president Mehbooba Mufti on Wednesday said she won't contest the upcoming Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections as an assembly in the Union Territory is extremely weak to implement any significant decisions. Mufti said that if she won't be able to release a prisoner or revoke an FIR on her own, what use was being a chief minister in such a region. «I have been a chief minister of a government with the BJP which revoked FIRs against 12,000 persons. Can we do that now? I, as the CM of a government with (PM) Modi, wrote a letter to separatists to invite them for talks. Can you do that today? I got a ceasefire (implemented) on ground. Can you do that today? If you cannot take back an FIR as CM, what does one do with such a post?» Mufti told reporters here.

Trump entourage accused of shoving staff at hallowed US military cemetery
Trump was embroiled in controversy Wednesday after a report that his entourage shoved staff during a politicized visit to the United States's most hallowed resting place for its war dead. National Public Radio reported late Tuesday that an Arlington National Cemetery official tried to prevent the Republican's aides from filming and photographing in a section reserved for those killed in recent wars — and where filming is banned. Trump staffers responded by shoving and verbally abusing the employee, the report said.
