US retail sales beat expectations on autos boost
United States soared past analyst expectations in July, according to government data released Thursday, helped by the autos segment and bringing some relief to policymakers. US consumption has remained resilient despite high interest rates, and experts are closely monitoring if this continues to hold up until the central bank begins rate cuts. A weaker than expected labor market report recently sparked market turmoil, over fears that the world's biggest economy was in worse health than anticipated.

This is why Federal Reserve may slash interest rates only once and not more than 25 basis points
interest rates. Their hope was rekindled after Federal Reserve Chairman Jeremy Powell indicated a reduction in the bank rates in September. Many people believe it may happen earlier and the Fed may convene an emergency meeting to take a decision aimed at saving the US economy from slipping into a recession. However, Ed Yardeni, the president of Yardeni Research and a longtime Wall Street veteran believes there may be only one cut in this financial year and it may be as little as 25 basis points.

Indian investors value sustainability but struggle to access trustworthy data: Deloitte
Indian institutional investors now consider sustainability information essential in their due diligence process, a study by Deloitte and The Fletcher School at Tufts University said, adding as sustainability becomes more integral to investment management, trust in the ESG data used to inform these decisions is lacking, posing challenges in accessing trustworthy data. «According to Indian investors, the inconsistency or incomparability of ESG rating data (73 per cent), cost constraints on integrating ESG data into investment decision models (71 per cent) and lack of measurable outcomes in corporate disclosures (70 per cent) reduce the trust factor of available sustainability data, inhibiting their ability to implement ESG investment strategies,» Deloitte said citing its study titled 'Investor trust in sustainability data'. The study further highlights that Indian investors are more likely to trust in-house proprietary data systems and audited (or assured) corporate disclosures for sustainability analysis. However, as compared with global investors, Indian investors are less likely to rely on external data sources and ratings.
