'Fighting Indian State itself' remark: Sambhal court asks Rahul Gandhi to reply by May 7
Rahul Gandhi to file his reply by May 7 over his controversial remarks about «fighting the Indian State itself». During the inauguration of the Congress' new headquarters in Delhi on January 15, Gandhi alleged that the BJP and the RSS have captured every institution of the country and said, «We are now fighting the BJP, the RSS and the Indian State itself.» Hindu Shakti Dal national president Simran Gupta moved the application before the Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (Special MP-MLA Court) at Chandausi in Sambhal, her lawyer earlier said. Speaking to PTI, Gupta said, «On January 15, Leader of Opposition (in the Lok Sabha) Rahul Gandhi, during the inauguration of the Congress' new headquarters in Delhi, had said that 'our fight is not only with the RSS and the BJP but also with India'.» This comment demonstrates disrespect towards the citizens and democracy of the country, the Hindu Shakti Dal chief said. «It mocks the people and poses a threat to the unity and integrity of India. This statement has hurt the sentiments of people across the country, due to which I first complained to the District Magistrate of Sambhal, SP Sambhal and others.

'Those opposing Waqf bill are not Muslims': Uttarakhand Waqf Board Chairman slams opposition, says 'It's 70 saal vs Modi Karyakal'
Uttarakhand Waqf Board Chairman Shadab Shams on Tuesday said that the poor Muslims have hopes from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, adding that it is «70 saal Vs Modi Karyakal» (PM Modi term). Speaking to ANI, the Uttarakhand Waqf Board Chairman said that the PM Modi-led central government has decided to bring the poor Muslims into the mainstream. «Poor Muslims have hopes from PM Modi, and that is why we have named this amendment bill as 'Ummeed'. Union Minister Kiren Rijiju is the ray of hope… PM Modi's government has decided that they will bring the poor Muslims into the mainstream. It is '70 saal Vs Modi Karyakal',» Shams said. He further attacked the opposition and said that the Opposition had 70 years, and they did whatever they could and «looted» Waqf. «They looted Waqf. They looted the rights of the poor… They are scaring the Muslims by saying that mosques would be taken away. Those who are opposing are not Muslims. They are political Muslims of Congress, Samajwadi Party, AAP and Janata Dal. There are NGOs and committees behind them, such as Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind and the Muslim Personal Law Board, who want to go to the Rajya Sabha through a backdoor… All of them are Waqf beneficiaries. They are worried that it would be taken away from them… They are worried because it is going to be taken away from the rich. We are sure that PM Modi will pass the Waqf Amendment Bill and give the poor Muslims their rights,» he added.

AICC Bihar, responded to questions about political strategist Prashant Kishore's prospective participation in the INDIA coalition. «As you are saying that he is standing against the BJP, the decision regarding him will be discussed and taken by the INDIA alliance parties,» Allavaru stated. The statement comes amid Kishore's criticism of the Bihar CM and the BJP. Addressing a press conference on Sunday, Kishor said, «The first person to comment on Nitish Kumar's health was his ally, Sushil Kumar Modi… Since then, many Bihar Ministers have commented on his health. I never commented on it till January. But during the BPSC protests, I learned that Nitish Kumar's mental condition has deteriorated so much that he has no clue what's going on in the state.»

MK Stalin-led opposition CMs attend JAC meet, demand fair delimitation
Name cards of the political dignitaries were displayed in both English and their respective regional languages. While Stalin addressed the gathering in Tamil, Kanimozhi and Udhayanidhi spoke in English, and Kerala and Telangana CMs also spoke in English. «Delimitation will affect states that have successfully implemented family planning. We are not against delimitation; we are demanding a fair delimitation,» Stalin said. Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan said the delimitation exercise was «hanging over our heads like the sword of Damocles.» He added that the exercise would disproportionately benefit northern states, where the BJP has greater influence. Karnataka Deputy CM DK Shivakumar too said that the proposed delimitation would be a political assault on southern states. He added that when Karnataka and Tamil Nadu stood together, no power could break the states. Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann claimed that the BJP's aim is to reduce parliamentary seats of states where the party is losing and to increase it in states where it is winning.

Nagpur Violence: Nearly 45 people arrested; VHP demands strictest action against perpetrators
VHP on Tuesday condemned the violence in Maharashtra's Nagpur over a demand to remove Mughal emperor Aurangzeb's tomb in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and sought «strictest action» against those involved. At least 45 people have been arrested in connection with the violence that erupted on Monday, Nagpur district guardian minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule said on Tuesday. As many as 34 police personnel and five other persons suffered injuries in the incident, he added. Condemning the incident, Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) general secretary (organisation) Milind Parande alleged that «a section» of a particular community carried out attacks and arson. «Houses of our youth wing Bajrang Dal workers were attacked, they targeted many houses… The Vishva Hindu Parishad condemns all this in the strongest terms,» he said in a statement. «It is extremely shameful that, on one hand, a lie was spread that the Hindu community had burnt the verses… on the other hand, a despicable attempt was made to incite violence. Strictest action should be taken against all such anti-social elements,» he added. Trinamool, BJD and BJP delegations meet ECI over fake voter ID cards issue
Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and Trinamool Congress — met the Election Commission of India separately on Tuesday over the allegations of irregularities in voter numbers, demanding action by the poll body. The BJP also visited the poll panel in West Bengal over the alleged fake voters in the state, claiming that Bangladeshi infiltrators and Rohingyas have been included in voters' list. The BJP also alleged the state government of West Bengal has played a role in settling a significant number of Bangladeshi infiltrators and adding them to the voter list. This has weakened our electoral process and these voter lists should be scanned, the BJP demanded. The delegation of Trinamool Congress, led by its Rajya Sabha floor leader Derek O'Brian, met the poll panel over the issue of duplicate Electoral Photo Identity Cards (EPIC). The party, in its memorandum, said that the issue of duplicate EPIC numbers was kept buried, allegedly for several years, until it was flagged by the party supremo and West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee.
