Assam cancels Bihar Diwas celebration amid controversy, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma extends greetings
Sarma acknowledged Bihar’s deep-rooted cultural legacy and its pivotal role in shaping the nation’s development. He praised the resilience and dedication of the people of Bihar, who continue to strive for a brighter future and contribute to the state’s growth.
«On the special occasion of Bihar Day, I extend my best wishes and congratulations to all Biharis. The hardworking people of this state are consistently working towards progress, taking Bihar in a new direction,» he remarked.
A programme to celebrate the Bihar day was held in Guwahati on Saturday organised by Raj bhawan.
Several organisations including proscribed militant outfit, United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA-Independent) opposed holding of Bihar Diwas function in Tinsukia, ruling BJP in Assam had cancelled the programme scheduled for March 22.

Assam Pradesh BJP President Dilip Saikia stated that for several years, the NDA-led Central Government, the Bharatiya Janata Party, and its allied parties have been celebrating the foundation days of various states as part of the ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat Sneha Milan Utsav’. This initiative aims to strengthen the spirit of unity, harmony, goodwill, and the bond of diversity across India. Several states, including Delhi, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Mizoram, and Nagaland, have already celebrated «Assam Day». Similarly Assam has also celebrated the foundation days of states such as Manipur, Meghalaya, Tripura, Gujarat, Maharashtra, and Sikkim.”
