CBAM, permanent establishment rules, transfer pricing key in India’s outbound FDI: EY
global concern surrounding environmental issues and clean energy pose certain threats to Indian companies planning to invest abroad, consultancy major EY said in a report. While deeper insights are needed in areas like Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism (CBAM), transfer pricing regime, permanent establishment rules, it said that higher investment limits for strategic PSUs investing overseas and investment by family offices are expected to spur overseas investments. India’s outward foreign investment increased to $22.88 billion in FY23 from $1 billion in FY02. On CBAM, it said: “Effective October 2023, it will be an additional cost for importers of specific emission-intensive product categories into the EU and means new compliance and reporting obligations. Companies therefore need to proactively address CBAM-related challenges for exporting ‘covered products’ to their overseas subsidiaries by understanding the requirements, assessing the potential impact on their operations and by developing a compliance plan”.

In absence of heavyweight challenger, BJP eyes record win for Shah in Gandhinagar LS seat
Congress failing to field a strong candidate in the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency, the BJP is eyeing a record winning margin of more than 10 lakh votes for its sitting MP and Union Home Minister Amit Shah. In the past, this predominantly urban constituency has been represented by BJP stalwarts L K Advani and Atal Bihari Vajpayee. While the seat has been a pocket borough of the BJP since 1989, it did witness interesting contests when the Congress chose high-profile candidates like T N Seshan and Rajesh Khanna. This time, the Congress has fielded its former Gujarat women's wing chairperson Sonal Patel against Shah, who had won by more than 5.5 lakh votes in the 2019 polls. Local BJP leaders said the party aims to raise this margin of victory to more than 10 lakh votes. In 2019, BJP's C R Paatil defeated his Congress rival by more than 6.9 lakh votes from Navsari in Gujarat. It was the highest margin of victory in the country in the 2019 elections.

Lab-grown diamond exports expected to grow by 7-9% in FY25: Report
Diamonds (LGDs) exports are expected to witness a revival in FY25, with exports expected to grow by 7-9% to reach a value of~US$1500-1530 million, according to CareEdge Advisory. LGD exports have been declining in recent time, and have seen around 16.5% decline y-o-y for FY24. While the sales volume of LGDs have been growing, the declining prices have impacted the exports. Nevertheless, the depreciating rupee is likely to act as a cushion for the industry, believes CareEdge Advisory. Going forward the demand for LGD exports are expected to revive in FY25, as demand for naturally mined diamonds may remain sluggish. This is attributed to its price point, environmental sustainability, and intensified competition from India against other leading LGD-producing nations.

Soon travel time between Mumbai and Pune to come down to just 2 hours. Here is the latest update
Mumbai-Pune commuters will have to wait a bit longer for smoother travel as the completion of the crucial cable-stayed bridge, a pivotal part of the Rs 6,695 crore missing link project, faces delays. Despite initial projections for a July deadline this year, the bridge's construction may extend until March of the following year, delaying the anticipated reduction in travel time by half an hour, a Mumbai Mirror report stated. Challenges and Delays: Anil Kumar Gaikwad, the Managing Director of MSRDC, elucidated the complexities hindering the project's timeline. Factors such as the formidable task of erecting four 182-meter-tall pylons amidst the valley's relentless winds and precarious visibility conditions have contributed to the delay. Moreover, the exigencies imposed by the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, coupled with the logistical hurdles of deploying skilled workers to lofty heights, have compounded the construction challenges. Anticipated Impact on Travel: The completion of the missing link project holds significant promise for streamlining travel between Mumbai and Pune, offering a respite from the arduous journey through the ghat section. With 85% of the Expressway's current traffic expected to migrate to the new route upon its inauguration, commuters can anticipate a smoother and more time-efficient journey. The project aims to bypass the treacherous Khandala ghat section, thereby trimming the distance between the two bustling cities by over 6 kilometers and slashing travel time by nearly 30 minutes.

₹60,000 per 10 grams to ₹71,132 per 10 grams. On April 12, they touched a record high of ₹73,958. This unprecedented surge in gold prices indicates heightened global uncertainty, driven by factors such as trade tensions, financial conflicts among global major powers, record-high interest rates in advanced economies, and ongoing wars, particularly in the Middle East.

Intrinsic opportunity for jewellery business very strong: CK Venkataraman, Titan Company
«Actually, the intrinsic opportunity for the jewellery business of Titan is very-very strong. And I think post the election, there will be a certain stable demand as well,» says CK Venkataraman, MD, Titan Company. If I put the numbers in perspective for our viewers and looking at what brokerages have said, brokerages are of the view that for Titan it is an okay quarter, it is not like a grand quarter. Perhaps, they were expecting a bit more. They are of the view that gold prices and competition has increased which in a sense was the problem point for Titan for the quarter gone by and could linger along for next couple of quarters. Is that true? Actually, we have certainly been investing a fair amount in growth. Growth has been our focus mantra for a while. And yes, the kind of sales growth that the quarters saw and what was announced also a few weeks back, the margin growth, I guess was not in line with that expectation.

Concerns on low voter turnout a 'myth'; absolute number of voters correct way to analyse: SBI Report
low voter turnout in the first two phases of 2024 general elections a «myth», an economist at the country's largest lender SBI has said comparing the absolute number of votes cast is a better way to analyse the turnout. Soumya Kanti Ghosh, the group chief economic adviser at SBI, said there has been 0.4 per cent increase in the absolute number of votes cast in the first two phases. «The unending debates propagated around supposedly low voter turnout in the first two phases of the General Elections 2024 is a myth. A better measure of votes cast is the absolute number of voters,» he said in a report. The Election Commission has been working to increase the voting percentage in the remaining phases of the polls.
