Apple has been upstaging Samsung in terms of revenue growth and exports out of India, but the Korean major is still significantly ahead of rivals in terms of local value addition. Industry executives and market trackers said while the industry average for local value addition in electronics manufacturing hovers around 22-25% currently, an increase from 18% in 2022, Samsung's local value addition is higher. This is partly because Samsung has been manufacturing mobile phones as well as other appliances locally in India much before the government's production-linked incentive scheme came into force and boosted India to become the second largest mobile phone manufacturer.

Royal Canin, the French pet food maker, on Wednesday said it has opened Asia's second-largest fully operational packaging plant in Bhiwandi, Maharashtra with an investment of ₹100 crore. The new packaging center, which is Royal Canin’s first facility in India, will have automatic packing machines and associated utilities installed for conversion of bulk products into retail packs catering to Indian pet owners requirements. The company didn't rule out the possibility of exports from the facility in future. «India is a place where the pet food category is emerging, we believe it is going to continue to grow. The plant will help us localise and have a more flexible approach towards the market,» Cecile Coutens, global president of Royal Canin told ET.

Jio has now emerged as the world's largest mobile operator in data traffic consumption, surpassing China Mobile. The total traffic on the Jio network has reached 40.9 exabytes compared with China Mobile's 38 exabytes during the January-March quarter, according to global analytics firm Tefficient. Jio also holds the second largest 5G subscriber base globally at 108 million, with more than 28% of its total wireless data traffic now being consumed by 5G users, the company said in its analyst presentation. To be sure, Jio's average revenue per user (ARPU) also reflects the impact of subscriber additions of JioBharat phone users, who are value customers, and the unlimited 5G promotional plans. Analysts say Jio's strong pace of user additions and consequent market share gains will augur well for revenue conversion in near term, as and when tariff hikes are undertaken. They expect tariff hikes of 20-25% soon after the upcoming general elections, which end early June.
