Food Research Universities blues biodiversity Colleges International Saved from whaling, blue whales now face threat from global warming, human activities: Study
global warming and other human threats like underwater noise, pollution and disrupted food sources, according to a new stocktake of their population. Researchers found the greatest genetic differences among the blue whale populations in the eastern Pacific, Antarctic subspecies and the pygmy subspecies of the eastern Indian and western Pacific. Blue whales average about 27 metres in length. Natural selection could be one of the reasons behind these differences, they said. «Each of these groups need to be conserved to maintain biodiversity in the species, and there are indications that natural selection in different environments contributed to driving genetic differences between the high-level groups,» said Catherine Attard, College of Science and Engineering, Flinders University, Australia. He is the first author of the study published in the journal Animal Conservation.

markets Strategy Research Cycling show Schools Commentary 3 midcap baskets where earnings may grow over 20% in next 3 years: Gautam Duggad
Gautam Duggad, Head Of Research — Institutional Equities, Motilal Oswal Financial Services, says: “The consumer discretionary sector holds a significant position in our model portfolio, with eight consumer stocks, predominantly of a discretionary nature. The second sector of interest is hotels, which has ample room for growth after emerging from a decade-long downtrend. Similarly, the real estate sector, which witnessed a prolonged downturn from 2008-09 until recently, is now showing signs of a more enduring uptrend. ” What is the outlook when it comes to the IT space? Does that cautious stance continues due to uncertainties? If so, would the strategy be to look at a mix of large and midcaps or would you stick to just the largecaps? Gautam Duggad: As far as IT is concerned, we are running an underweight stance in our model portfolio. While the stocks have underperformed, especially the largecaps because if you look at the prices of some of the largecaps today, they are still trailing the prices that they had in October 21. Now, with Accenture's guidance yesterday and commentary, the softness can continue to prevail and we might see a little more earnings downgrade.

Gap economy Research wellness country reports rights Why are women both sadder and happier than men?
I have a good job, a loving husband, healthy kids and a comfortable home. I came late to it all and I sometimes can’t believe my luck: that the sleep-warm little bodies I help dress in the morning are my own children, that the man in my bed at night helped me make them. But the clichés about motherhood and aging and that ever-elusive work-life balance did not quite prepare me for the clichés of my life.

markets J&J Research show testing patient prevention New blood thinners will prevent blood clots without causing bleeding
A new class of anticoagulant drugs on the horizon is taking fresh aim at one of cardiology’s toughest challenges: how to prevent blood clots that cause heart attacks and strokes, without leaving patients at risk of bleeding. At least a half-dozen experimental blood thinners are in development that inhibit a protein called factor XI, one of several blood factors that regulate how the body forms clots. The challenge is this: The body generates two types of clots—good ones that plug holes in blood vessels to stop bleeding caused by external injuries, and bad ones that grow inside arteries and veins.
