Hindustan Zinc Ltd (HZL), part of mining major Vedanta Ltd, is looking for domestic partners to set up manufacturing plants to make Zinc-based batteries in India, senior executives said in an interaction with Mint. Balochistan's interior minister Mir Zia Ullah Langov held talks with BYC leader Dr Mahrang Baloch, a young woman from the province, and the two sides signed a seven-point agreement. «Negotiations between the Baloch Yakjehti Committee and the district administration have been successful and the organisers of the committee have agreed to end their sit-ins across the province,» Langov said in a statement.

A top court bench of Justices C T Ravikumar and P K Mishra stressed the need to put compliable conditions while granting bail, «recognising the human right to live with dignity and with a view to secure the presence of the accused as also unhindered course of investigation, ultimately to ensure a fair trial».

Eris Lifesciences on Friday said its consolidated profit after tax declined by 4.5 per cent year on year to Rs 89 crore for the quarter ended on June 30, 2024. The drug maker had reported a profit after tax of Rs 94 crore in the April-June quarter of the last fiscal. Revenue rose to Rs 720 crore for the first quarter of 2024-25 from Rs 467 crore in the year-ago period, Eris Lifesciences said in a statement.

Jharkhand Assembly on Friday passed a Bill to impose cess on mined minerals to boost the state's revenue. This move follows the Supreme Court's July 25 ruling, which affirmed that the legislative power to tax mineral rights rests with the states. Mining Minister in-charge Mithilesh Thakur introduced the 'Jharkhand Mineral-Bearing Land Cess Bill 2024', which was approved by voice vote. The Bill proposes varying tax rates for different minerals on a per-metric-tonne basis: Rs 100 for coal and iron ore, Rs 70 for bauxite, and Rs 50 for manganese ore and other minerals.
