Yemen's Houthi rebels detain at least 9 UN staffers and others in sudden crackdown, officials say
Yemen's Houthi rebels under unclear circumstances, authorities said Friday, as the rebels face increasing financial pressure and airstrikes from a US-led coalition. Others working for aid groups also likely have been taken. The detentions come as the Houthis, who seized Yemen's capital nearly a decade ago and have been fighting a Saudi-led coalition since shortly after, have been targeting shipping throughout the Red Sea corridor over the Israel-Hamas war in the Gaza Strip.

3 stocks Viral Shah is bullish on from NBFC sector
«I think primarily it is the NBFCs which is there, which actually the NBFC MFIs where this issue is in terms of the higher rates. Spandana has announced that they are going to cut rates. So, we are seeing this trend across all the MFIs. And it should play out for the other MFIs also over the course of next few quarters,» says Viral Shah, Vice President, IIFL Securities. Let us start with that comment that has come in. What is it in terms of the risk that has comes out for the NBFC? Is it much of a concern? How are you seeing? Yes, they have cautioned this before, but how do you see this now shaping up? I think RBI's pattern in terms of incrementally dealing with all the regulated entities is quite set. They have highlighted this issue quite sometimes. The deputy governors have highlighted it in their interactions. And today we had a comment from the governor himself. So, I think this is one key area that should be on focus and he has specifically called out the MFI sub-segment and that is a place where we believe that some of the higher rate lenders will have to take a rate cut. In fact, a couple of them have already announced that they are going to take between 50-70 odd basis points of rate cuts over the next few quarters.

Govt will continue to focus around power & capex themes: Vikash Kumar Jain
«Possibly policymaking will have to adjust to those realities, which we were not thinking about going into the election. So, these are the new things that they need to react,» says Vikash Kumar Jain, CLSA Investment Analyst. Good note you guys have come out with on the focus on Modi 3.0. I mean, that is clearly the one single biggest area of interest of the market right now. And within that, of course, formation of the cabinet and the agenda to be taken up. What are your thoughts could be the priority areas in the coalition? I think there are a couple of realities that the new government will have to deal with.

R Gandhi welcomes RBI's focus on banking safety and payment system soundness
«Other announcements which are all for increasing the safety and soundness of the banking system and the payments and other things, that are welcomed,» says R Gandhi, Former RBI Deputy Governor. What to your mind actually stood out from the governor's commentary given that it was along expected lines and a status quo? Yes, that is right. The whole policy announcements are on expected lines only. Both by the market and others going by any standard I do not think anybody would have thought otherwise. Of course, going forward, everybody would be expecting the rate cut to come in sometime soon. So it could be in August or October, that will be the next debate, that would obviously depend upon the inflation footprints that we will get this month and next month so that should guide us.

Opposition will draw a clear functional line to the government as the condition for the smooth functioning of Parliament in future, including the upcoming budget session. The Opposition leaders said the government this time will have to reinstate the post of the Deputy Speaker of the Lok Sabha and allot it to the main Opposition party of the INDIA bloc. The leaders also said the ruling establishment must also «end riding roughshod» over the Opposition and Parliamentary procedures by rushing through many important Bills without proper discussions and voting, at times even by mass suspension of Opposition MPs.

general election having concluded with Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led NDA winning a third term, the second biggest electoral exercise got underway on Thursday as around 450 million European Union (EU) citizens began voting to choose 720 members of the European Parliament (MEPs) from 27 countries.
