pinpoint where it went wrong. Having got a lead of 190, we thought we were very much in the game. (It was) exceptional batting (by Ollie Pope), one of the best that I have seen in Indian conditions by an overseas batter," Rohit Sharma said in the post-match presentation.

We need to build social capital for a better quality of urban life
Five years after Bengaluru’s Church Street received a facelift, it is struggling with dumped garbage, broken pavements, damaged street lights, brazen illegal parking and inadequate maintenance in general. It has been painful to observe this deterioration right outside my office. At this point, you are perhaps rolling your eyes and saying “what’s new?", since we all know about the corruption in local government, incompetence of city authorities and the ‘lack of civic sense’ among our people.

Financial challenges for live-in couples: How to resolve the money issues and secure your finances
While societal acceptance of such relationships has increased, at least in metros and tier 1 cities, they continue to be beset with several legal and financial issues. Though living together is not considered illegal or a criminal offence, there are no specific laws governing such relationships and the couples do not enjoy the same legal and financial rights as married couples. Over the years, however, several Supreme Court rulings have accorded legal protection to the relationship based on a loose definition of cohabitation. “Live-in relationships have legal validity, though India does not have a dedicated statute for these and it is only governed to a limited extent by judgments of the Supreme Court,” says Rohan Mahajan, Founder and CEO of LawRato.com. Such couples face several challenges because most financial and government institutions recognise only married couples and blood relatives for legal transactions. Inheritance rights, joint tax benefits and health insurance coverage can be tricky, while long-term financial planning for goals like retirement and buying property can be complicated. Overcoming these requires careful financial planning and legal documentation to ensure stability and security in the long run. Joint financial products

We’ll lift Zee stake to 26%; no plan to raise external funds: Subhash Chandra
MUMBAI : Five years since Zee Entertainment persuaded lenders not to classify its debt as default, the media giant is facing pressure to oust its promoter family, after an aborted merger with Sony Pictures in India. In an interview, founder Subhash Chandra said his son Punit Goenka, who heads Zee, is the right person to lead it in the future as well, as he aims to raise the family’s stake in Zee from 4% to 26%. Edited excerpts: As you know, the 25th of January was the fifth anniversary of our failure in the capital market, when Zee’s shares fell almost 40%.

Zee-Sony: What next after the merger collapse?
Zee Entertainment Enterprises Ltd (ZEEL) ended on a bitter note last week, few in the industry were surprised. Given Zee parent Essel group’s debt problems, a probe by market regulator Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) into its promoters, as well as disagreements between Sony and Zee, the split was long anticipated. Sony Group had agreed to merge its India unit with Zee late in 2021, combining their television networks, digital assets, libraries and streaming platforms to create the country’s largest broadcaster.

Federal Reserve rate cut: This week’s decision could be the prelude to March move
Federal Reserve policymakers may finally be right on the verge of cutting interest rates. Going into this week’s two-day policy meeting, which wraps Wednesday afternoon in Washington, investors are assigning roughly even odds to the prospect that the US central bank will start lowering borrowing costs at its next decision in March. That makes Fed Chair Jerome Powell’s press conference, and any signal he may or may not choose to send, of critical importance.

AIFs reject early exit pleas from banks, plan for 'defaults'
alternative investment funds (AIFs) in India have turned down 'early exit' requests from banks and finance companies, and are now exploring ways to deal with these investors as they default on 'capital calls' from funds. Will AIFs impose a penalty on banks and non-banking finance companies (NBFCs) which, following the Reserve Bank of India's recent dos and don'ts, fall short of their original commitments to the funds? Will a fund forfeit the amount already invested? Or, will funds simply cap the investment with contributions made so far, make an exception for banks and NBFCs caught in the new regulations, and move on to preserve relationships with these large investors? While the third appears more likely, it could all depend on each fund and multiple factors: the size of commitments by affected investors, how aggressive a stance a fund manager takes, and whether the absence of future drawdowns could unsettle a fund's investment plan and dynamics. A bank or NBFC which stops contributing can be technically categorised as 'defaulter', but a fund may think twice before doing it, said AIF circles who, however, were unanimous on the denial of early redemption to select investors. According to Tejesh Chitlangi, senior partner at the law firm, IC Universal Legal, «The Category I and II AIFs in which RBI's governed Regulated Entities (REs) primarily invest, are all closed-ended funds with investors not permitted preferential redemption rights in terms of SEBI AIF Regulations.

₹4,500-4,800 crore (around $600 million). This is far lower than the price Byju’s paid in 2021 when it acquired Aakash for around $950 million.
