Muted expectations and slow rural demand suggest earnings downgrade may continue: Ajay Bagga
«So, a bit of a problem on the capex side and maybe these were priced to perfection already, were not cheap and we are seeing a sell-off there that maybe it is a two-quarter catch-up that will happen and it is not going to happen in the next quarter,» says Ajay Bagga, Market Expert. To the point that Vinay was also talking about, the crack in some of the industrial and capital good names. One would assume that around budget, there would be increased expectation of perhaps private capex picking up. First half was bad. Everybody was pinning hope on the second half of the year. What then explains this kind of sharp drops in the prices of capital good companies? Ajay Bagga: I agree with you. Normally, with the budget coming up, we see railways, defence, infra, cap goods, all these stocks going up. So, today's move, I could not really tell you. But overall, the issue has been slow government orders and slow pickup in the private capex, that we have seen because demand has been quite constricted. We have seen private capex getting postponed as well.

Key investors question PIL that led to HC stay on Religare AGM
Subscribe to enjoy similar stories. Mumbai: Several large investors of Religare Enterprises Ltd (REL) have criticized the public interest litigation (PIL) filed by an investor that led the Madhya Pradesh High Court to indefinitely stay the company's upcoming annual general meeting. The investors disputed the premise of the writ petition filed by the individual named Vijayant Mishra, who argued that a takeover of Religare by the Burman family will concentrate the ownership of the company in the hands of a few, which is against the interests of minority shareholders.

Manu Joseph: Why we’re lucky to be Indians in such a terrible world
Subscribe to enjoy similar stories. Of late, I am hearing Indians say an un-Indian thing. When they think about a world in turmoil—the devastating wars in the Levant and Ukraine, the cruelty of militias in Africa, the upheavals in Bangladesh, the recent collapse of Sri Lanka’s economy, and of Afghanistan and Pakistan, which do not require descriptors—I hear them say, “Actually, we are quite lucky to be Indians." This sentiment is new.

Vivek Kaul: Warren Buffett and the mediocrity of investing
Subscribe to enjoy similar stories. Wasim Barelvi is perhaps the greatest living Urdu poet. And when it comes to his poetry, my favourite couplet of his is: Har shaks daudta hai yahan bheed ki taraf, Phir ye bhi chahta hai usse raasta mille. This basically means: Every individual wants to run with the herd,And then wants a right of way as well. (I am not a professional translator, so the beauty of the original is bound to be lost in translation.) Like all great poetry, the couplet summarizes what is perhaps a universal trait injust a few words.
