New Delhi: Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi on Wednesday filed her nomination paper for a Rajya Sabha berth from Rajasthan. Accompanied by her children and top party leaders, Gandhi filed her nomination papers before the officials in Jaipur. With this, 77-year-old Gandhi opted out of contesting yet another election to retain her Rae Bareli Lok Sabha seat in UP which she represented five times in a row since 2004.

Stock market today: Shares of Yatharth Hospital and Trauma Care Services Limited have been in an uptrend after the announcement of Q3 results 2024. The multi-care hospital declared its Q3FY24 results on Saturday last week. In its Q3 results 2024, Yatharth Hospital declared a 39 percent YoY rise in PAT (Profit After Tax) whereas the operational revenue of the company surged 21 percent in this time.

Lufthansa flight LH773 from Bangkok to Munich. Reports indicate that the man coughed up blood during the flight. The Congress government is expected to showcase its agenda ahead of the Lok Sabha polls later this year through the Governor's address and presentation of the State Budget, while the opposition BJP and JD(S), which are set to fight the polls jointly, look to show the government in poor light by highlighting the allegations against the administration. The 10-day session, which will commence with Governor Thawaarchand Gehlot's address to the joint session of both houses of the state legislature, will see Chief Minister Siddaramaiah presenting his record 15th Budget on February 16.

Taiwan's defence ministry said on Sunday it had detected eight Chinese balloons crossing the Taiwan Strait in the previous 24 hours, of which five flew across Taiwan, the second day in a row is has reported a large number of balloons. Taiwan, which China claims as its own territory despite the strong objections of the government in Taipei, has complained since December about the balloons, saying they are a threat to aviation safety and attempt at psychological warfare. In its daily report on Chinese military activities, Taiwan's defence ministry said it spotted the first balloon on Saturday morning and the last one mid-afternoon, having spotted the same number of balloons on Friday.

In JPMorgan's equity strategy note Friday, analysts said US earnings and sales delivery are «significantly outpacing» that of Europe.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has kept the repo rates unchanged for the sixth time in a row at 6.5 per cent. The repo rate is the rate of interest at which RBI lends to other banks. The decision was made during the three-day RBI’s monetary policy committee which started on Tuesday (February 6-8). The RBI typically conducts six bi-monthly meetings in a financial year, where it decides interest rates, money supply, inflation outlook, and various macroeconomic indicators. 

While the Reserve Bank of India on Thursday kept the repo rate unchanged for the sixth time in a row, banks may further increase their short-term fixed deposit rates to attract more money, as the loan growth has been robust and liquidity remains tight. Experts say there will be a clamour for short-term deposits, with the one-year rates nudging higher and longer-term rates possibly staying flat.

Sunil Singh, son of a fisherman, and Arjun Singh, born to a factory worker, grew up 2000km apart from each other. But there is a binding thread — an unending passion for water sports unhindered by their difficult formative years. In both the events China won gold. In shooting, Ramita and Mehuli finished second and fifth respectively to qualify for the finals in the individual event. In rowing, the Indian pair won Bronze in the 2018 edition of Asian Games and were ranked 11th at the Tokyo Olympics. Indian rowers will fight it out in as many as nine finals this Sunday and Monday. Men's double skills pair Satnam Singh and Parminder Singh also advanced to the medal round after coming first in their repechage.
