Continuity in key ministries will be welcomed by markets: Swaminathan Aiyar
«I think one of the important signs that we are getting is that neither the TDP nor the JD(U) appears to be putting very important people into this particular cabinet and that is a sign I think that at this point of time you are not going to see the allies pushing the BJP in any particular direction,» says Swaminathan Aiyar, Consulting Editor, ET Now. It seems quite evident that the key portfolios like my colleague was just highlighting are going to be with the BJP. Yes, there has been speculation that the BJP no longer has an absolute majority, it is going to be dependent on this fellow, on that fellow and they will have to compromise. If you just look at the ministers announced, this is very clearly a BJP cabinet. Yes, there are some other people from the other parties, they are not important people, they are not people who are going to drive policy.

Should investors buy select IT and FMCG stocks? Anand Tandon answers
«FMCG is a default play, you would want to kind of, because many of the staples, etc, have not done anything for many years now. But that said, it is not as if the volume growth will pick up in a big way and overall these are very expensive stocks,» says Anand Tandon, Independent Analyst. What is the view on IT and FMCG? Would you be a buyer in select IT and FMCG? Well, FMCG perhaps more than IT. There is no doubt both of the sectors have been under-owned and have underperformed quite considerably. Right now, I think the market is looking for areas to rotate into given the fact that the sectors that have actually led the rally so far, which has been mostly PSUs and so on may take a breather for a while and therefore, even though there are no great upticks that are likely in IT at least, one is still looking for sectors which have not moved so far.

D-Street Week Ahead: More pullback can be expected, says Milan Vaishnav
markets had an incredibly eventful week as they reacted to the exit polls and the actual general election results. All happened in the same week; the Nifty saw itself forming a fresh lifetime high and also came off close to 8% from its peak. A remarkable recovery also followed that led Nifty to a fresh closing high as well. The trading range also remained extremely wide; the Nifty oscillated in a massive 2,057.25 points range before closing near its high. The volatility too swung violently. It surged over 40% at one point in time; by the end of the week, it came off by 31.38% to 16.88 as compared to its previous week’s close.

Unlocking the power of passive value investing through Nifty 50 Value 20 Index
value investing is to purchase these stocks at a low price and hold them until their market value reflects their true worth, thereby earning a profit. This approach is based on the belief that the market sometimes overreacts to good and bad news, causing stock prices to fluctuate more than they should. So, value investors look for opportunities where they can capitalize on these market inefficiencies, often requiring patience and a long-term perspective. Investors can participate in a value strategy through actively or passively managed funds. Active funds have professional managers who make decisions on portfolio allocation, aiming to outperform the market through research and analysis. On the other hand, passive investing is straightforward wherein the fund just follows the index it is based on, holding the same stocks in the same proportions. This means an investor is always aware of what one is investing into. Plus, the index generally tends to be diversified in nature and is low cost in nature compared to its active counterpart. Additionally, investors through index investing can have a hands-off approach to investing.
